i have been lucky this yr n found a couple whistle pigs around here on the 20 acre farm. i know there is at least one more n this is totally unusual here. it had been yrs since i seen one here at home, n just maybe they are makin a comeback of sorts.

i killed both of these under 100 yrds with my OTT 6x47 contender(necking up a 204 ruger, n pushing the shoulder back).... n used a load of varget with a sierra 75gr hp. a lil much bullet for hogs...but i had em loaded n it works ;\)

A lil'much?! There is never too much bullet for g-hogs. They are tough critters!!! I hand grenaded one at 300yds with the .338JDJ#2 (180gr NBT at 2475fps)...literally looked like a green gut bomb went off at the hit site but the hog drug itself back to its hole! .224" and medium capacity 6mm bores from SP's are perfect medicine for 300yd to 400yds.....your 6x47 is right in that mix!

lol.....338 huh? now that some hog power! yep...bout anything will work but it is kinnda cool to disintegrate a lightweight bullet inside a small critter at somewhat close range. i've used the 60gr sierra hp before with no exit at under 100yrds. i think that 75gr would be just right on a tough ol coyote though.

My fave sub-150yd hog bullet is the 35gr V-Max from a .22 Hornet...turns the insides to j-e-l-l-o and have never had an exit. Shot a hog last week that was under a old corn crib...waited for 15 minutes and he would just not come out. Ended up shooting him while under the crib...he was facing me so I aimed low under his chin with the Hornet to avoid any potential upward splash. The bullet hit exactly where I aimed and launched him up, he slammed the bottom of the crib and plopped him back down. That was pretty cool.

Also the 40gr V-Max from a .222 or .223 does wonders!! Had some of these exit with edge of body hits...but that is rare.

In 6mm the 70gr NBT's do well but my best there was the 70gr Starke RPVB. They would tear a hog apart inside and NEVER exited.

To get a shot at our west coast yellow belly marmont it seems that you have to go hiking around in the Sierras if you are in Ca. Now that I'm retired maybe I'll try that after all the vacationers go home. If we got doe tags out here I've got three or four in the yard right now. \:D But, we make do with ground squirrels most of the time.

I hope so, would be great for you. You need to do a little coyote hunting this year too. It might help the charlies even more.

75gr pills from a 6mm are excellent on charlies. My 243 likes the 75gr V-Max, also excellent on water filled milk jugs. Just ask Dan B on that one.

I agree with Dan, charleis are tough critters. I disemboweled a charlie with the 480 Ruger and he still managed to drag himself back to his hole. When I'm using the small calibers (257,6mm,22) it's chest and higher shots only.
