Recently picked up a used 14 inch factory 30 Herrett barrel. A couple of days later I found a used 14 inch 357 Herrett barrel for sale and "had" to get it, too. \:D 30 Herrett 357 Herrett with 32-20 in foreground Bought the dies here on the HH site. Thanks! Dan B. had suggested a while back that I try R-7 in the 30 Herrett. I tried it and I liked it. I shot my old load of IMR4227 in some fireforming brass with the same old results and had some freshly loaded fireform brass with R-7. I can tell you this...the 30 Herrett LOVES R-7!! Even in fireforming mode it grouped like crazy. If you haven't tried it, you must. I tried it in the 357 Herrett to fireform my first batch of 375WW brass and it groups like crazy, too! I'm not a good shot like most of you HH'rs but I think I have been beating myself up using the wrong load all these years and there is some promise with a new load using R-7. \:D

Here's what that little 32-20 can do loaded with the right bullet!!

Had Bob at Penn Bullets custom size a 115gr FN. I loaded that over W231 at about 1000fps. Loaned the barrel to a buddy and he smacked this lion on Colorado. I love that little cartridge. IMR4227 and 110gr Hornady SP's are my standard load. Be careful on the runout though...those thin case walls do not provide much support when seating short bullets like the 85gr Sierra SP's.

Good going on the .30 Herrett...it's a great little round. The RL-7 gives a slower push on the bullet base and I think that does a lot for accuracy. Should really help you in the FPS with the 14" tube also.

.357 Herrett....have a 15" Custom Shop tube. Loaded it with H4227 and 180gr SSPB then went hunting. Never did much load work with it...but it shoots 1.5" at 100yds and killed a handful of deer. Good'nuff!

Baseball season should be over...when you gettin' up here to do some LR shooting with that new .257AI?!?!

Baseball is just heatin' up!!! I coach a college fall league team at Marietta College (2006 Div III National Champs) starting the end of August and going thru all of September. Been doing that since 1998, it's a blast. One of my kids is pitching for the Yankees. Matt DeSalvo has been up and down with the big club a couple of times this year. I caught him in 2000 during our fall league. A good kid, too!

For me its been a way of life not a sport. Ha! Its been good and bad. Lots of aches and pains but each one has a memory attached.
