Sorry, I don't know anyone shooting them. I remember a company offering a bullet with no core that was loaded with a sabot. They offered a .458 for .45-70. I do not recall the name of the company or if other calibers were offered though.

The idea of using sabot loads is interesting, however I wonder whether there could be catastrophic problems jumping the flash gap and into the forcing cone. Be very interested if there have been any experiments using sabots with revolvers.

I was wondering the same thing. I was looking at the 200gr SST from Hornady for the 460 S&W which is what they use in their factory loads. From what I can tell, the 200gr SST is actually a sabot. Haven't ordered any because I wasn't sure how they would work for hand loading.

I called and talk to Hornady before about the 200 grain 45 cal bullet. I wanted to load the Leverution SST bullet in my Contender. They said that they would not be able to put the bullet on the market until they have caught up on production/surplus of ammo. They had plans for putting on the market before and had to delay them. I was under the impression that it was not a sabot. I might be wrong, but it would be good to know either way.

I went to the Hornady site to this page: https://www.hornady.com/shop/?ps_session...c671e50820f1a1. It's labelled the 200gr SST, but I don't know if it's the same bullet as they put in the 460. I guess it must be smaller in diameter to allow for the sabot???

The only tipped bullet I could find for the 460 is in loaded ammunition. I have two articles about that ammunition in two different magazines and I am pretty sure that “that” bullet is not a sabot. I think we may be talking about two different bullets! My honest and best honest recommendation is for you to call Hornady. They are very friendly and the tech I talked to would have talked my ear of if I would have let him.
You tried with the link, it did not work with my computer. Noble effort.
Please keep me informed. That bullet sounds intriguing.

If I'm not mistaken, the .45 cal ML sabots are made for a .458 bore. I am not sure if they would do well in a .452 bore, but being plastic would likely swage. With the short barrels of the wheelers I don't know how much of an advantage it would be anyway.
Rod, too.

Man, I though I was smoking something. Remember that is highly illegal in the Navy. Glad to see we sorted out the confusion. GeeWiz Duane

There is a no tolerance on any type of illegal substance in the Navy. I have the sweetest job in the world, I am not going to anything to jeopardize it.

The coined fraise “I thought I was smoking something” is probably best explained as ‘I thought I was loosing my’ mind or ‘I thought I had lost my marbles.’ I was also redundant with the phrase “glad to see we sorted out the confusion.” I was using the phrase as an attempt to have humor in the form. You were inquiring about a bullet that I didn’t have any knowledge of. Stating “YOUR WRONG, THERE IS NO SUCH BULLET THAT EXISTS!” would have been demeaning and in bad judgement on my part. That is not the reason that this form exists. AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, I would have been incorrect, a such bullet does exist. Not only would I have really looked foolish, but I would have missed the entire point of your question. That is the reason I suggested that we might have been talking about two different bullets. I am here to learn more about this subject as well. It made sense to me that we were talking about different bullets, and it would have also explained why I couldn’t find it on Hornady’s website. I though your question of “what’s illegal” was anther attempt at humor and my answer, hopefully, reflected that. I am apologize if I got off subject.
You asked a legitimate question and I am trying to give you an honest answer. I have learned more about handguns on this form in the last two months than I have in the last 29 years. I hope that is the reason we are all here. Sorry for the confusion and I again apologize for getting off subject.
