In Georgia you can use any muzzleloader. I use a 15" TC Scout pistol.

You can hunt with one in Mississippi, as long as you shoot shotgun shells with no larger than #2 shot. I've taken quite a few with a T/C contender, 14" 45/.410 barrell with 3" #4 shot .410 shells. "Very Challenging"
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

WY allows handguns spring and fall, so does SD.
You can use handguns in MT in the fall.

NY does not allow it. Then again only a NY resident can hunt with a handgun, so even if it was legal to use a handgun an out of state resident could not. Great state eh?

Nebraska doesn't allow handguns. Shotgun, crossbows and archery are the only legal weapons here.

thanks for all the replies, it will give me something to go on to start my research. With the guys that hunt them with a handgin, what is your favorite caliber? Do you head shoot them to eliminate any meat loss?

I shoot for upper chest or spine. Done this twice with no damage to the breasts or wings. Even the with 162gr A-Max there was no meat harmed.
