My brother decided that if he was going to hunt with me he needed a handgun and bought a Ruger SBH 7 1/2 barrel. I ordered him some Hornady 240 LSWC for practice . My Hornady manual is 4th edition and I know there are a lot of new powders out there any recomendations would be appreciated, Thanks, Ralph

I use imr 4227 a lot- 24 grs and I use 296 quite a bit also, in my shorter bbls- 4 5/8 sbh and 3" 629, but quick as I fill the freezer, I'm going to work with lil gun by hodgdon, they claim much better velocities than anyone else has, i'll see what they can do in my 7 1/2" redhawk and sbh, and and howw much they lose in the shorter barrels.

Those are pretty soft, don't push them to hard or you will cuss the leading. Titegroup or maybe look into Trailboss. Try a couple with 44-40 load data.

My SBH really likes W296 and Cast Performance bullets. I have not found a jacketed bullet it will shoot as well. Standard disclaimer, this load is safe in my gun, may not be in others. Let us know how your loads work out. Good luck!

Jeff, I was leaning towards Titegroup at about 900 fps once he is competent with that I will start working up some XTP's. Think I will save Pab's load for myself. Ralph
