Hello group!

I just traded for a 30-30 14" T/C bbl from one of our members here (Thank you!).

In the past I have just taken 30-30 bbls and punched them out to something else (like my 30 Bower AK and 30-30 Ack Imp). I think that I'd like to play with this one for a while as is. I'm planing on using it in IHMSA (silhouette) so I need something that can hit and knock over a 60 pound steel ram at 200 yards. Normally that means something of about 130 - 150 grains going 1900fps. I have 3-400 150 Gr. gas checked cast bullets that I picked up in a trade and a bunch of various jacket bullets.

I know that every barrel is different in what it likes to eat but can a few of you share a few tried and true loads, both cast and jacketed which you have had some success with??

Thanks to all in advance!

Bill

Bill, SR4759 works real well for me in the 30-30 with cast bullets. AA2520 shows a lot of promise also, I have used H335 too.
I have not used any FLGC (full length gas checks) in mine so I can aomment on them much.
I can get an exact load of the SR4759 and get it back to you if you want? I think, don't quote me 18-19 grains.
Jeff
BTW, still have the 35 Rem rimmed I traded you out of years back.

Hi JSH,
I couldn'r remember who I traded that (.35 Rem Rim) to. I remember that it was accurate and fun to shoot. I always wished I'd held onto it...sooo, if you ever want to get rid of it please let me know. I'm sure we could trade for something and in 5-6 years trade back again!!

Thanks!

Bill

I have had really good luck with H335. It is not the fastest, but is shoots lights out in mine.

Bill.....if you can find any AA2200, it is a great powder in the 30-30 barrels. Especially at $45 per 8#. It was around several years ago but may be all gone now. I still have about 10# in reserve!

Thanks T/C man and Dan. I'm not looking for the fasted bulet speed; just the most accurate. I figure that it is better to move to a different caliber choice then to push a 100 + year old design over its limits. With thin brass and a tapered case there is no use in stretching brass to the point that it has to be constantly trimmed or deal with case head seperations.

I have some H335 on the shelf so I'll try that first. For cast bullets I might try AA5744.

Thanks!
Bill

AA5744.....great choice. Used some for reduced loads in the 30-30 with 150gr bullets. VERY accurate but never did take a chrony reading.

Or...iffin you decide to sell...keep me in mind. I'm looking for a barrel to rechamber for 30-30AI. Sold mine a few years back to fund another project and would like another. Kept my dies for just such an occassion.

Thanks everyone!

Dan, I'm going to keep this bbl for 6 month to a year. I'll get back to ya when it is time to trade again.
