Hey anybody ever have a trooper mkIII with a scope. I have one and put a simmons handgun scope on it , after 5th shot the scope had shattered on the inside. Didnt care to much for the scope mount for the Colt but thats what it is. Kinda skimpy I thought. I'm not really into testing out a bunch of scopes but is this setup worth messing with or should I move on to a gun with a better mounting system.

I would say move on to another gun with a better mounting system. That being said, I would try Jack Weigand and see if he has something that would work for you. I perused his sight and he does not have your gun listed specifically but it won't hurt to try. His products and bullet proof and head and shoulders above others...

I agree completely with whitetailer on both, I would get another gun if your able but if you want to scope the trooper then check with Weigand, I use his stuff on both my x frames which I've since sold and two of my custom rugers including a 475 and havn't had any problems at all.

I appreciate the info fellas! The Weaver mount didn't do any justice for me. It only screwed down on the rear. Anyway, since a new gun could be an option any suggestions? I'm thinking the Taurus 41 mag. or a TC setup. My shots are mostly at 50-100 yds. even with my rifle. Lots of thick wooded area around where I hunt. I tend to catch myself stalking all the time. Also I don't reload at this time.

I'd look at either the Ruger or Smith & Wesson revolvers and I'd go with 44mag since the ammo is more readily available than the 41. If you want single shot I'd go for the G2 for the ranges your talking there is a bunch of suitable cartridges available.

Thanks again! What would be a maximum range for the 44mag. have for a revolver. Some areas that I hunt could push 150 yds. I use to have a Ruger all weather rifle, and loved the way it shot. Thing was like a BBgun. G2 might be the way to go.

My personal ranges are 100 yards for deer and 75 yards for Elk. These ranges could be stretched if you have the perfect shot. But I feel the closer the better. This is with a 7 1/2"barrel and a scope. Everyone has ranges that they are comfortable with and these are mine.
