Hello All,
I have to confess, I've been a lurker hear for years, but I like the articles and the abundance of information that this site offers. I have just got back into handgun hunting after a few years out of service with an arm injury. To date I have a coyote kill with a Ruger GP100, but that's it so far. I hope to add some deer to that list with my new SBH and BFR before season is out this year. BTW, my avatar is of my 14 pointer I got in muzzle loader season this year. Big boy too, almost 200 lbs. live weight. Lot's of meat for the freezer.

Whitworth,
I thought all 03's died off after they got out. I have not bumped into another 03 since 96. I knew we had a short shelf life and all. Nice to know there is at least two of us left, and thanks for the welcome.

I'm Matt and just joined this site yesterday. I retired from the USAF a little over a year ago and teach ROTC at a local high school. I haven't done a whole lot of handgun hunting; a black bear and a couple hogs.

I finally got a set of dies for a 357 Herrett TC Contender I've owned for almost a decade. It was once owned by Skeeter Skelton and I hope to use it on Javelinas someday - just seems right.

Hi , I'm wren . Grew up in rural eastern N.Carolina on family farm and still here . Guns have been a part of my life since i was old enough to pick one up . Over the years I've mostly hunted with shotguns & various caliber rifles . Now I'm in need of a full shoulder replacement and don't think hunting with the 270 win. Is going to work any more . I owned a TC contender in 44 mag once and now think that may be the way to go , only this time would like to try something like a 7/08 or 308 maybe,I also reload . I'm all ears to any advice . Thanks , glad to be here . Will share what I know when I think I can be a help .

Hey guys Todd here. I live in central WV and have hunted for as long as I can remember. I took my first handgun deer this fall with my SBHH 44 and now I'm hooked. I also have a Ruger single six and a High Standard double nine that I use for squirrels and such. Very excited that I found this site and all the info avalible. Hope I can add a little to it from time to time, but I have very limited experience. Thanks Todd

New member here from Alaska. I use to hunt with a Thompson contender back when I was stationed in South Dakota and took an antelope and mule deer with a 7x30 Waters, but over the years I sold most of my handguns. In the last year I have renewed my desire to get out and hunt win one and picked up a Super Redhawk in a 454 casull and another contender in a .223 and .358 JDJ. I have taken a moose, griz and caribou with a bow so now its time to start playing with the contender! I am retiring from the Air Force this year after 26 years so hopefully that will free up some time for some really good adventures!

Hello everyone I am new to the forum. I live in central Virginia and I have been handgun hunting off and on for the last 12 years after I got out of the Marines. Kids and work keep me from enjoying it more often. I am currently in law enforcement and I currently enjoy shooting the 460 and 500 s&w. I am finally going to my get first FA in 475 after contemplating over it for a few years. It has been great reading everyones posts and seeing all the knowledge that they possess.

I caught the handgun hunting bug several years ago. I hunted small came with 22's and finally killed a small buck with an Encore in .308. I lost interest and sold my Encore, but have renewed my interest and spent limited time this past season with my Super Redhawk and am looking forward to a summer of killing rocks and dirt clods and such in preparation of next fall.

My name is Chris and I have been shooting handguns for the last 20 years. Most have been semi-auto service pistols with a occasional snubby backup thrown in for good measure. Through the years I have been blessed to have harvested my fair share of nice public land Whitetails with the Flintlock, Modern Rifle, Compound Bow and Crossbow. The one thing I haven't done though is use a Handgun to harvest a deer or hog. I have wanted to do this since I was a teenager and I'm now 42 years old. I recently purchased my first hunting revolver a stainless 10" Ruger Super Blackhawk to help me in this endeavor. I have high expectations, but only time will tell......

Hey fellas,

I have been a member of the forum for about a year, but never have done this before.

Anyway, my name is Ray and I am 62 years old and live in the state of Maryland.

Been hunting for about 40 years and started handgunning about 10 years ago.

All I have ever killed with my SBH were a Razorback and a 7 pt. buck.

The boar took 2 shots,the buck 1.

Both were about 65 yards away and I was on foot.

My Ruger has an Ultradot on it and I use a Primos Trigger Stick.

I would really love to take game with my 1911 and my S&W 66 some day.

Anyway . . . some great reading to be found here, that's for sure!

Maybe someday when I retire in the next 2-3 years I will be able to get with you guys on a forum hunt.

Rmocarsky

My name is Michael. I have hunted deer for about 48 years. I have taken deer with rifles, shotguns, long bows, recurves, compound bows, crossbows and now revolvers. I enjoy hunting with my revolvers the most and have taken (6) deer with a 44 mag. I now want to start hunting with my GP100.

Hey all, I'm Bob. I've been hunting for about 35 years on and off, mostly on since about 1995. Until thi year I've been using modern archery tackle, high powered rifles, shotguns and modern muzzle loaders. I decided to get into handgun hunting this year and have picked up a vintage Smith and Wesson M57 no dash 41 mag with 6 inch barrel. I've decided to only use open sights for now since I dint want to drill and tap the M57. I mostly hunt in Virginia, but have been known to travel out of state on occasion.
I've yet to take a trophy animal and I like to say thats because I hunt for meat, not trophies. Truth is I haven't had a trophy animal in my sights. There have been a few years that I had decided to only shoot trophy animals and had an empty freezer, with the exception of small game after hunting season. Thats a lot of money spent on ammo for practice with no return on investment. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy hunting even if I don't see anything or get a shot off. Just being in the woods is all the threapy I need.
This year I plan on only hunting with a handgun during gun season. All I have left to do is pickup some .41 dies and bullets for reloading. I think thats the only way I can afford to practice enough to become proficient with the revolver. I didn't know how much different a revolver is from a pistol. I'm hoping to be able to keep my rounds within 6 inches at 50. Hopefully that is good enough. I've yet had to track more than 20 yds or use more than 1 shot to drop an animal, with the exception of a russian boar that I took with my 1911 (I'll never try that again). It took 13 rounds and it fell 6 feet from me, I almost needed new underwear....
Well I hope to gain a lot of knowledge from y'all in order to hone my revolver skills.

Hi,new to the forum and looks like a great site for handgun hunters to be. I'm Ryan and live and hunt in South Carolina. I've been handgun hunting exclusively since my late teens and now I'm in my late 30s. In all that time I've never met another handgun hunter in my home state but have met a couple from other states. Never could understand why it isn't more popular with hunters than it is. There loss I suppose. I like to hunt with revolvers and single shot pistols . Which reminds me deer season is already on in my area so I'd better hit the loading bench.
