I live in NW New Mexico in the four-corners area. Have hunted with an old three-screw Super Blackhawk for years. Now am trying to get used to a 454. I don't seem to come across many handgun hunters in this area.

Hello all, name is Garrett. I'm an avid lifelong archer/firearm hunter. Grew up in Wisconsin and after college moved to Arizona some 20 plus years ago. I was taught hunting/shooting by the best... my dad. And now I'm passing it along to my 4 young kids.

Love my 44's but when the SBH 454 came out I jumped on it and haven't looked back! Slowly customizing it to fit my needs/wants. Thought it would satisfy my Big Bore curiosity... boy was I wrong! Need to add a 50 caliber someday.

This is my first time posting on any site. Chose here because this site is so educational, entertaining and friendly. I've learned a lot and continue to hone my skills by reading from the many contributors. You've also cost me a bunch of money... a lot of great handguns out there I didn't realize I "needed" to buy! Figured it was just time to say hello and appreciate this forum for doing so.

Thanks! I hate to place too much blame at one mans doorstep, but after reading Big-Bore Revolvers, I knew I had to step my game up from my 44's. Then Ruger made it affordable for me with their 5 shot 454 SBH. I thought that would be enough to satisfy my curiosity but boy was I wrong! And this site and all of it's wonderful enablers are gonna make it tough I can see!

Hello. My name is Jason. I go by Wojo and I am new to the handgun hunting world. I am a traditional bowhunter and I was looking to extend my possibilities for meat. I have nothing against rifle, I just like challenges and always liked revolvers. I am going to give handgun hunting a try this gun season here in PA. I am taking my Dan Wesson 15-2 8? barreled 357 out. I keep reading and some people are not a fan of 357 for Whitetail, but its what I have and am a decent shout out to 45 yards. Considering I am a trad bow guy, 45 is far! I have never killed an animal past 15yards and never with a firearm. So, I will see how I do!
I have been practicing and at 45 yards, I can keep my group to 5? with open sites. Any thoughts? I was hoping to get a scope put on it, but opening day is monday and I ran out of time!
Anyway, Any advise you can give a newbie would be greatly appritated! I have been reading the forums for a few days now and just registered!

If you keep your shots within your comfort level and only take shots with the angle you would take with your bow you will do wel.

Thank you. I enjoy reading posts and learning about my new hobbie.
I was at gun shop today and they had scope mounts and a nice pistol scope to get me started. Going to shoot it all weekend and prepare for monday!
Now I have to get into re-loading.

My name is Jeffrey Locke and I am neophyte handgun hunter. I love the idea of handgun hunting all game from all over the world. I will begin by hog hunting in 2019 using my 460 Smith and Wesson 5 inch X-frame or my 500 Smith and Wesson 6 1/2 inch half-lug X-frame revolvers.
I use the 460 platform to shoot 454 Casull and my 500 platform to shoot 500 JRH Smith and Wesson Short magnum.

Jeffrey Locke again. My rationale for using the X-frames as my platforms and a shorter cartridge of similar power in each is twofold. First, the idea of bullet-creep tying up and disabling the gun is mitigated by using the shorter cartridge in the longer cylinder of the X-frame. Secondly, the shorter barrels do not burn gun powder as well as longer barrels. Using a 5 inch barrel in the 460 and a 6 1/2 inch barrel in the 500 means the shorter cases of the 454 Casull and 500 JRH will burn their powder more effectively than the 460 Smith and Wesson Magnum and 500 Smith and Wesson Magnum.

My name is Anthony, and I live in Indiana. I mainly hunt Whitetail deer on private and public land near my home and want to get more serious with handgun silhouette shooting.

Hello my name is Brandon, I am from South Louisiana. I hunt in Alabama and Mississippi. I have been handgun hunting for quite some time. Please understand my next statement that i am going to make. I am one of the few African American handgun hunters who is trying share the experience with other Afro-American deer hunters to give it a try. I haven't had any success yet but I have some real good candidates. I think that the more we have enjoying the sport the better it is for us. I hunt with a TC 7-30 Bullberry and 358 Bellm. My overall favorite is my .357 Freedom Arms model 83. I have taken quite a few animals. Handgun hunting is very addicting!

from a number of past conversations I`ve had with Brandon I can say he is a young man that knows and enjoys hunting with a handgun... He sure can shoot his FA`s model 83 in 357....

Hello my name is Aaron. I just joined the site. I am a toolmaker for Ruger Firearms in Newport, NH. This year will be my first year hunting with a handgun. I will be using a Ruger GP100 in .357 caliber. Most of my shots are 50 yards or less. I have had great success with the long guns and muzzleloaders. My wife and daughter hunts as well, and most of the time I accompany them. Makes sense to carry a handgun instead of the rifle. Look forward to learning about this new type of shooting/hunting.

Welcome to the site. I have a GP 100 that I killed one doe with four years ago. I was using a BARNES 140 all copper bullet. She dropped in her tracks. You are going to love your new passion.

My name is Mike and I am new to the forum. I am a Systems Engineer. I live in Parker Colorado and picked up handgun hunting only a few years back. I grew up with guns/hunting as my father was an instructor and a gun smith. I own a Ruger SRH in 454, a Ruger SBH in 480 Ruger and my most recent purchase is a Magnum Research BFR in 500 JRH. I enjoy hunting and fishing a most things outdoors. Looking forward to my first "huge" game hunt next September, North American Bison. Thanks for having me.
