Hello to all !!
My name is Mark I am from TN. I have been hunting since about 5 years old 39 and 11/12ths now. I started handhun hunting about 12 years ago and have been consumed with TC contenders and Encore ever since. I am a toolmaker by trade but presently work as an advanced tooling engineer for a company that stamp parts for automatic transmission. I love this site and appreciate all the articals. I have been told that I have to be crazzy to hunt with a handgun but think that us handgunners are the sain ones and the rest of the world is crazzy!

Hi ! My name is Mike. I,m a machinest/toolmaker by trade. I've been handgun hunting for 25 yrs. I've used T/C Contenders and sixguns & I enjoy them both. My newest one is a S&W 460 XVR topped with a Leupold 4x scope. I want to get out and shoot it as soon as the weather breaks.

I have been gone for awhile so I'll reintroduce myself!!

I'm Paul from Watertown WI. I have been a gun owner since my law enforcemnt days in the 80's. Hunting since "92 when a friend invited me along. Done most of my hunting with a handgun or shotgun but did a few years with a rifle. That gun is long since been sold and Im back to handguns only.

Now I shoot mostly IHMSA steel and a little hunting.

"New Guy" Renster here. I just posted a diatribe in the "reply" section of my original post in an attempt to answer all who welcomed me. (sorry, I'm still learning how to do this stuff!)Then I saw this. ooops!
Please go there to view and it should tell you what you want to know about me. In the meantime - I don't believe I saw any other New Hampshire posts here. If I missed it, let me know please. And let me know if you viewed my reply to all of you in the original post. Any further questions I will try to answer as a "new" post next time.
Take Care all.

I use a Traditions Trapper caplock. I bought it as a kit and swapped the .50cal barrel for a .40cal barrel. With the lock polished it's pretty fast and very accurate. I also did wire and shape inlays in the stock, rust browned the barrel and glass bedded the recoil area so not only does it perform well it looks nice. I kill squirrels almost everytime I leave the house with it.

Hello fellow Handgun Hunters

I’m Danie from Pretoria South Africa. I grew up with rifles and hunting in the late 50’s on a farm in the Thabazimbi district in the north of South Africa. I’m shooting hunting handguns for almost twenty years but only started active handgun hunting six years ago. My hunting collection consist of a 357 Magnum Astra revolver and four TC’s in the following calibers: 223Rem 12” Bulberry barrel; 300 Whisper Super 14; 357 Herrett 12” and a 445 Super Magnum 10” all topped with Bausch & Lomb or Bushnell scopes.

I have been a committee member of HHASA for four years and now the newly elected chairman of the association. Anyone interested in what’s happening in South Africa’s handgun hunting circles could visit our website: http://www.handgunhuntersa.com or contact me at info@handgunhuntersa.com

Guess I should have started here before asking questions. I've got a lot of them. Self taught hunter, dad didn't much care for it. As I evolved as a hunter, not that I'm any good now, I realized that most of the deer I shot with a rifle were all pretty much within handgun range. Fate helped a little bit. I woke up one morning about 3am with a back spasm. I spent the next two hours trying to get comfortable on the couch, so as not to wake the wife. Just got back to sleep at about 5am when she comes out to wake me up and see if I'm going hunting. I kind of grumpily explained the situation and tried to get some rest. After another half hour of misery, I said if I'm gonna be miserable, I may as well be miserable in the woods. When I opened up the gun safe, I decided to take my .45 blackhawk and leave the 30-30 for my backs sake. I ended up taking a huge doe at about 15 yards that morning. The rest is history. Haven't carried a rifle since. I've only taken about 15 deer. Took an 8-point with the bow about two weeks prior to the doe I just mentioned, my first nice buck, I got more of a rush taking the doe with my sixgun. Sorry to be so long winded. Love this site. You guys are a wealth of info.

I joined the forum about 3 years ago but after the first couple of months drifted away to another forum as my main interests shifted from hunting to USPSA shooting. I have been lucky enough to take deer and hogs with a variety of different handguns. I have spent the last two years living in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia so now I can only handgun hunt when I return back to Texas for vacations. A couple of months ago I decided to take advantage of the situation and book a handgun hunt for Water Buffalo in Australia in June, and that is what has drawn me back to this forum. I am glad it did as I enjoy reading everyone comments and getting involved with the handgun hunting community again. I look forward to spending more time here sharing hunting stories, ideas, and lessons learned with all of y'all.

HI, Im Kirk. Ive been a handgun hunter for a long time. Im new to the site but love it! Like TCMAN im a Navy Vet. I hunt with revolvers but have hunted with a contender in 7/30 waters for a while. Love the great old .45 Colt round. I have used it in a couple of Ruger revolvers and am currently shooting a slightly customized 5.5in. Bisley. I am also a retired Pennsylvania Game Commission deputy.

Gregg Richter here, joined the site in 2004 but did not become active until just a month or so ago. I "met" Gary by e-mailing him about my SCI #1 Handgun Mule Deer and he bought my story and also another one on the Kimber 1911 .17 Mach 2 and published them in the Fall 2005 Handgun Hunter Magazine issue. I have talked to Gary on the phone literally for hours and he has shared his time and knowlege very graciously and I commend him IMMENSELY for what he has done and IS doing for Handgun Hunting, especially this GREAT website.

In 1987 I originated and still coordinate the annual Handgun Hunters International Antelope Hunt on the Durham Ranch in Wyoming and we are now in our 23rd year with 625 antelope kills with handguns to our credit on this hunt. That is not a typo.

I worked with the Colorado Wildlife Commission in 1985 and 1986 to get handgun hunting legalized in Colorado for all big game species, and then more recently for muzzle loading handguns to be legalized during regular rifle season.

I do some outfitting (since 1988) for deer and elk for both rifle and handgun hunters, but only on a limited basis and on private land. Hence my website name here: "Stallion West;" it is the name of my outfitting business, Stallion West Outfitters, and I also do business under the name "Little Gun Outfitters," for the handgun part.

I started handgun hunting in the seventies and have taken antelope, mule and whitetail deer, caribou, elk and many species of small game with handguns but do not discriminate against rifles. Actually, I hunted coyotes professionally in the eighties and early nineties with a Remington 788 22-250 (w/Leupold 3X9 and the whole rifle including scope spray painted with camo paint) for the fur market and have over 300 kills on coyotes, including a dozen or more with handguns. Not that this is any kind of record but it means something to me. All were fair chase.

Now 58 yo my goal is to help my son Joe to the best of my ability to enjoy and commence successfully in his handgun hunting career. We have a rare and wonderful bond here and I am very thankful.

I will close with this: Again Gary, keep up the good work and thanks to all you fellow handgun hunters that keep this site informative as well as interesting, to say the least!

And if I may say so: God Bless all of you!
