I'm Cal. I have a ranch in East Texas and I noticed a couple of years ago that I frequently saw wild pigs when I was on my tractor (and away from my rifle). So I got a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter and put a Burris 2X scope on it and put it in a big holster that sits right in the middle of my chest when I am driving my tractor. I have since killed many wild pigs with this rig and I thought I was making some progress.

However, just this morning I drove into my 10 acre hay meadow and discovered that since last Thursday, pigs have destroyed about 30% of the meadow. Sometimes the battle against those dang things seems like a lost cause - but I keep on trying.

In addition to wild hogs I have successfully hunted whitetail deer, coyotes, bobcats and numerous other varmints with my handgun. IT is a constant companion now when I am at my ranch, whether I am in my truck, on my tractor or walking.

My name is Chance and I am 26 years old. The 08/09 deer season was my first handgun exclusive year. I alternate hunting with a .41 mag Contender and a .41 mag scoped Ruger SB Hunter. Four deer and three hogs fell to 210grn XTPs this year. Living in Austin, I have excellent access to Hog hunting all over central Texas. I am currently trying to obtain as many .41 magnums as possible, so drop me a line if any become available.

I am new to this handgun hunting -- just got my first deer last year. My first passion is falconry, thus the name raptortrapper. I trap hawks and falcons, then train them to allow me to hunt with them. Been doing that eleven years. I hunt anything and everything with anything and everything. I'm an electician in the fort worth area, and am about to get married on May 30th!!!

Long time lurker. actually joined a couple yrs ago but never posted. I'm 52, been hangunning mostly for plinking and such for several yrs. Family and neighbors and most that know me think i'm kinda nuts. "Hey why would anyone have a NEED for so many handguns". Truth is i love to shoot em all. Lots of BH's.(30 carbine, flatop 357, om357 converted, to 44spec. several smiths, throw in a few taurus wheelguns. of course everyones gotta have a 1911 or three. HK-USP in 4o s&w and my newest fad, Encores. Reload for almost all of em and cast bullets for most of the wheelguns. Also a big fan of lever action big bores. Located in north central wv, a few miles south of the mason dixon line.

I just wanted to say Hello. I am located in the San Antonio, Tx area. I enjoy hunting with my long guns and my archery equipment. I just picked up my first big bore magnum wheel gun, a Taurus M44 with the 6 1/2 inch barrel. I hope to use it on some hogs, deer, and yotes as soon as I can scrunge up enough reloading supplies to start working up a load for it. So far I have picked up everything but the primers. Seems to be one heck of a wait on the primers.

Perhaps a more formal introduction. I live in north central Montana, have for 18 years. Also lived in Maine, Michigan, Missouri, and Idaho. Started handgun hunting, at 12 y/o, with a Ruger SuperBlackhawk 44 Mag, a Lee loader, 2400, and Hornady 240s. The 1st 1/2 hour of that season produced an 186 pound 8 pt. whitetail at 60 yards. That was 40 years ago, and I haven't looked back! I was told then, "It can't be done" ( successful handgun hunting ). Proven that wrong many times over. Have and have had and built handguns from the 17s to the 50s, all types of actions.

I'm Jerry. Hunt with handguns exclusively during firearms season. I own numerous handguns ranging for 17hmr Contender to 500 S&W. My favorite hunting round is the S&W 460 both my Encore and S&W revolver produce excellent accuracy with my handloads. Fortunate to have a 100 yard range on my property so I shoot as much as I can.

Hello, My name is John, Im 45 and live in Western, Mass, I just discovered this forum and decided to join up, I have never pistol hunted but am going to give it a try this year, We are quite over run with Bear here and in this state, surprisingly, you can use pistol for Bear.

I have had about a ten year hiatus from the shooting sports so it should be interesting, I learned to shoot both pistol and rifle as a young boy and carried it on through to be a fanatical collector of both especially older Colts. I have hunted, and just plain shot extensively with bow ,rifle, and shotgun throughout the years, which brought me into reloading and the construction of my own hundred yard range for testing.

I will probably use one of my Bisleys or maybe Vaqueros in 45 colt, But I have my eye on a 629, both a classic and a stealth hunter, so we'll see....surprisingly it would be my first ever 44 Mag

Hi, I'm Terry and have had a SBH for quite a few years. I've used it here and there for scouting walks, but never my main hunting weapon. I discovered this site, and now I'm re-thinking my hunting ideas. I live in SW new hampshire, and like 45 guy, there are alot of bears in the local area. Shooting a bear with a pistol would be thrilling. This site has tons of info, I check every day.

My turn. My name is Danny, and I live in Tennessee, 2-1/2 miles from the Alabama line, so I hunt and fish both states on a regular basis. Most of my deer hunting is done with a 14" Contender in .35 Rem., and I have a 10" .222 Rem. barrel that I use for varmits. I'm fortunate to have a 200 yd. range on my property, so practice is no problem, except for acquiring reloading components.

Been hunting with handguns off and on since the early 80's. Started off with a 10-1/2 incn Super Blackhawk, shot a Model 29 for a while, and this is my second Contender. I'm addicted to single-shots now, as all of my long-guns are singles, as well.

Hi, I am Marv, I started with a hand gun for big game in the early 80's with a Ruger 45 colt with a 4&5/8 inch barrel and cast bullets and a 14 inch 7x30 waters contender for mule deer. I got a 45-70 barrel for elk in about 89. I put down the guns for a while and hunted with the pointed stick for a number of years and I am going to hunt with the 45 exclusively this season.
I have been practicing on ground squirrels with 305 grain cast bullets, complete penetration LOL....

Hi Guys,

The name is Steve and I just joined up today. I've been hunting with handguns since the mid 70's. Been reloading about that long too. I love wheelguns and single shot pistols. Looking forward to reading and learning a lot from this forum and maybe putting in my two cents from time to time.

Ijust found this site, have been handgun hunting only.started in the 60s when the contenders came out, still using the same frame but have added a few barrels. i settled on the 357 herrett for large game. for the past 5 yr i've only hunted hogs, with a lot of luck.
