Howdy!

I've been a member for while now but never took advantage of the roll call. So..

The name is Tim and I live in Sonoma County, CA. While a veteran hunter I am new to the handgun hunting scene having only shot a large jack rabbit with my SBH .44 mag. Pretty impressive results.

In addition the the SBH I have a SRH in .480 Ruger that I am working up loads for. It is a bruiser but manageable for me. I practice with a padded shooting glove due to an old "ski pole" fracture of my right thumb.

I handload every cartridge that I shoot (10 at last count) so I am a gun crank.

So far I like this forum quite a bit, hope to see you all around.

Tim

J Cosmo Asp here. I have been hunting with handguns since 1976 or so. Began with an old model SN47 Super Blackhawk and new model Blackhawk in .45 LC to the .357 Herrett when it first came out. Upgraded to the 14" barrel with Pachmayr furniture and a 4X Leupold as soon as I could after they were available. Been Carrying a .454 Casull Ruger Alaskan on elk hunts of late, but only if a followup shot in a spruce thicket is in order. Can't say I like shooting the Alaskan from the bench, but have found that bullets under 260 grains do not back out of the cases and tie up the revolver when fully loading the cylinder. I have some straight lino to try some hard cast/heavy-crimped heavier weight bullets in the future. I have collected two Oregon blacktails and two Wyoming antelope over the years with the Herrett, which is still my favorite, and one muley with the Super Blackhawk. Bought 1K of same lot DWM 30-30 brass in the 70s, so I still have plenty to work with.
I look forward to learning from everyone here.

Asp

I'm new here and I'm finally getting around to introducing myself. My given name is Charlie and I live in Henderson,Nevada(just outside of Las Vegas). I've been handgun hunting since I bought my first Ruger .44Mag new model Black hawkback in 1984. I added an XP-100 in 7mmBR in the 90's. It's a hoot to hunt with. I've taken three mulies using that pistol. I am a life member of the NRA and also a reloader.
Happy to be here.

Hey TimBob, welcome to HH. I also have that gun and if you haven't tried the Hogue Tamer grip on it, you should. It does wonders for mellowing the 480 to near pussycat status, recoil wise. It is a hammer on deer.

Hello
My name is Barry. I am in my mid 60's and LOVE to handgun hunt. I am retired, former police officer, firefighter and private security for over 40 years. I started handgun hunting in the late 60's for small game with a Ruger MK1. In the early 70's started Deer hunting with a Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 Mag. Later went to a Smith 29 44 Mag, Taurus 454, Freedom Arms 454 and recently a Smith 460. I am now back to my Freedom, I just like the feel of the single action.
I have posted a few of my Deer pics
Great to be here

Barry,
Welcome!
I don't hunt often with a revolver, but when I do, my preference is one of Bob's FA's for sure.

Hello, Im Michael, and have been handgun hunting since the late 70's when I graduated high school.I uauassl use custom Ruger Bisley revolvers, or FA83's for hogs, bears, moose, antything under 75 yards. I usually only shoot 45LC, .454s and .475 linebaughs. For longer range, I will use a contender in 375 jdj for almost everything big, and a 6.5jdj for small stuff. I have just used them for so long, theres nothing to think about, just point and kill. I just retired this year, and am heading back to Alaska for the summer. I hunt 99% with handguns, have taken a few hundred big game animals with revolvers alone. It keeps it fun, and real. I live in Soldotna Alaska, and Menifee Calif.

I'm Rick. Have been handgunning since the early 1980s but just completed my first handgun hunt. Was on the Cadet Pistol Team at West Point and served almost 20 years in Army Special Forces. Just now getting going handgun hunting though. Been a little busy.

Question to the readership: Where does one find the handgun record book? I just shot a bongo with a Freedom Arms .454 and think it's quite a good one.

HI IM GENE, IM BRAND-NEW TO ANY FORUM. FIRST OF ALL I LOVE HANDGUNS, REVOLVERS AND PISTOLS. I LOVE SHOOTING THEM AT TARGETS, HUNTING AND COLLECTING. I BOUGHT MY FIRST HANDGUN IN 1980, A COLT PYTHON, 357 MAG, BLUE 6" AND STILL IS IN PERFECT CONDITION! LATER THAT YEAR I GOT MY FIRST 44 MAG, A RUGER BLUE 10" SUPER BLACKHAWK, KILLED A DEER WITH IT IN 1981, BEEN HUNTING ONLY WITH A HANDGUN SENSE 1983. KILLED A LOT DEER WITH A 44 MAG, BUT HAVE MOVED UP THROUGH A 454, THEN TO THE 500 MAG AND NOW I WANT TO HUNT WITH MY 460 MAG, THIS THING IS SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD OUT TO 300 YDS. I DON'T KNOW IF IM GOOD OUT TO 300YDS, WE'LL SEE!!! IF YOU SEE MY PICS YOU'LL SEE I LIKE TO CUSTOMIZE MY GUNS WHEN I HAVE THE MONEY.
SOME DAY I WANT TO HUNT GRIZZLY WITH ONE OF MY 500 MAGS AND ELK WITH THE 460 MAG.

Hi, my name is Roman. I've been shooting handguns, for accuracy, and in USPSA and Steel Challenge competition, for a few years now and am getting interested in hunting. Also, have a soft spot for wheelgunning. I recently stumbled across this site and look forward to getting more info and advice for my future handgun hunting endeavors. Thanks for having me!

Hi, I'm Grant and just discovered this sight and have to say it's awesome!. I haven't had a handgun since I had a moment of stupidity and sold my Super Redhawk .454 a few years back, and never took advantage of hunting with it,something I've always regretted. Most of my hunting has been done with rifle or bow. I'm about to pick up a Taurus millenium pro in .45 for a CCW. Well that has made me excited about shooting handgun again and of course it made me start thinking about my old .454. Well, I was in cabelas here and they have a nice used Super Redhawk .454.I think I'm goimg to have to pick that up.

Hello everyone, my name is Chico and I'm from Australia. I don't own a handgun of any type or even tried one but have always wanted to. As I think most of you would know, the laws governing ownership of handguns in Australia is very strict and they, the government make it very difficult to own a pistol let alone get a liscence to shoot. I hope to get the opportunity to try a few guns at the town pistol range oneday soon.

I've been a hunter with rifles, but now with a bow and arrow for over twenty years and I love being outdoors harvesting game. Handgun hunting has always interested me and I just found this site the other day and I'm living the hunt with a handgun through you fellas as well as learning more about the guns used. AS i said in my first post, please keep the stories and photographs coming and thankyou for sharing

Hello Everyone,
After numerous posts seeking knowledge on this great site...
I thought I should officially introduce myself. Forgive me for not doing it sooner... just my being hesitant arround new folks.
Anyways, I'm 69 yrs old, in the process of a divorce that is very amicable, have a daughter who is 21 & going for her MBA as a Physicians Assistant.
I've been hunting, fishing, camping since I was 12.... love the outdoors. I grew up in New York's Westchester County, my Dad taught me fishing, my friend taught me hunting, my shop teacher taught me hunting & camping.... still learning!
Health has been going uphill after open heart and cancer surgery.
I drink too much, quit smoking 15 years ago... is this too personal? That's me!
Getting back in shape for Coyote and Grouse Hunting this Fall...
Avid Steelhead Fisherman on Lake Erie, PA Tribs... tie my own flies thanks to my Dad.
