Do any of you use a bore-snake? I was wondering if it is a high quality way to clean your barrels? It sure does seem like it would be convenient. I really doubt that it is a "high quality" cleaning but I wondered if anyone had an opinion...

I use them all the time, they work really well especially for cleaning at the range, on hunting trips, or cleaning after just a few shots. I always use a rod and good cleaner for serious cleaning but the bore snakes work great in between. I normally spray a little Break Free on the brush part of the snake and make two or three passes with it. Another strong point to the boresnake is you can throw it in the washing machine when it gets dirty.

I have been reluctant to try them because it seems as if the crud might get pulled back down the bore.

I haven't had any problems but like I said I don't rely on them for heavy cleaning. I've looked through my barrels with a bore light after using them and have never seen any residue left behind other than if there is heavy copper or lead fouling but when they get to that point the rod and brushes come out any way. I think if you use them within their limitations you would like them, like I said one of my favorite things about them is how compact they are and how fast they will take out the majority of fouling.

After every range session I use my Dewey rods to clean thoroughly. But range sessions or heading out for a hunt I yank a Boresnake through to made sure everything is clean.
