The Burris 2-7 is a great scope.

Welcome to H-H. What's your budget? You can get a Bushnell Trophy 2-6 for $155, a Weaver 2.5-8 for $190, a Burris 2-7 for $300, and a Leupold 2.5-8 for $460. They all do a good job. Eye relief is most generous on the Bushy and Leupy. The Weaver is a great compromise, with clear glass and 8x top end with good eye relief. Rod.
Rod, too.

I STARTED HANDGUN HUNTING THIS YEAR WITH A T/C 25-06, WHICH HAS LIKE RECOIL. THE BURRIS 3-12 X 32 WORKED GREAT ON 3 DEER THIS PAST SEASON. THE 12 POWER AT 170 YARDS WAS EXCELLENT.

Burris makes an excellent scope. I had a 3-9 on my 270 and NEVER had any problems. I don’t think the 308 based cartridges have near the recoil that the parent 06 cartridges do. I think that is the point Bunk is making. I put a 2-7 Burris on my 708 just because that is all the magnification I think it needs. But that is my choice and opinion. If I need more magnification, that I am probably shooting farther than I need to for deer sized game. But I also setting my limitations, somewhere around 300 or less. A 708 with a 2-7 in the hands of Dan or XP would exceed beyond my capabilities. Maybe even double it.
Practice and familiarity is anther factor. Hunlee is great example of someone that is spending the time and effort for long range shooting. It makes a big difference!!

With a max range of 150-200 yards 6 to 8 power is going to do a good all around job. I would get either the leupold 2.5-8X or the Bushnell 3200 2-6X for the best and most consistant and long eye relife. They are both a little pricy but worth the extra cost.
Burris offers a 2-7 and a 3-12 scope that are both excellent but seem to give up eye relife faster than the others mentioned as you crank the power up. Especially the 3-12 on 12 power eye relife is very short.
See if you can get to a gun shop that might have a few of these scopes and do a side by side comparison in the power ranges. You will see the difference.

Burris 2-7 would be my first choice.

I've got several of the Bushnell Trophy 2-6X and they have treated me well. One is even on a 14" 45-70 Contender...after 100 or so rounds it is holding up just fine.
Everyone has mentioned good optics for your needs...but I have a question four you. What mounts are you using?? Cheap mounts can make a high $$ scope perform like garbage. I'd recommend the Burris Signature rings...they have plastic inserts inside the ring that perfectly aligns with the scope body to prevent tube damage or internal binding.
