Attendance was small...just myself, jimmylee and his friend, Jim. Lots spoke up about attending but I can not cast ill thoughts at anyone for not showing. The fuel squeeze on our budgets is even keeping me from hitting some local BR matches.. ..so if it ever does get more economical to travel...maybe we'll see some of you then!

Anyhoo...we had a great time. We had at least 65...maybe more like 75 water filled milk and juice jugs to shoot that were placed at ranges from 200 to 500yds...with most at 300 and 500yds. Now, if we had broken all those jugs with 75 rounds it would have made a quick afternoon then had to go home. But since my wife was bringing venison BBQ and potato salad, we felt obligated to miss a few jugs to make the day of shooting last a little longer and at least get an awesome lunch from it! So...a-missing we did do!!

jimmylee was swapping guns at 200 and 300yds quicker than my daughter changes outfits so I have no idea what he was shooting from shot to shot but whatever he was using was hitting most of what he aimed at. He can post about what worked for him at the longer ranges.

As for my guns...Jim did some awesome shooting with the XP/HS/Hart .222 Remington. When his .22 Hornet T/C ran out of steam he used the XP to make quick work of every jugs he laid a bead on at 300yds. Then he was handed the XP/Douglas/Bond stocked .250SAI and was hitting his share of plastic!

It was not until 300yds that I brought out the Striker/McGowan .260 for some range time. I worked up a load of H414/129gr Hornady IL that is going 2730fps. I never zeroed at 100yds so I just dialed in 3.5MOA and started shooting and it was hitting. I ran through a line of jugs at 300yds then was sidelined until 400yds. At that time I dialed in some more clicks and made a nice first shot connection. It ended up running through about 8 rounds at 400yds with hardly a miss. I had two rounds left for 500yds...the first went a little low so I made a correction and barely missed over top a jug. Needless to say I am very happy with this .260!!

After that I drug out the Lil'Monster. It made some nice hits at 500yds but I had to hold about 4" left and 4" low to hit consistently. At the end of the day I had four rounds left so I shot a group on the steel plate at 500yds. This was the result...


The cluster of grey between Jim's thumb and finger is shots #1, #2 and #4...they went into a nice 1.25" group. Shot #3 (just above his pointer finger) was shooter error...the gun was not square on the bipod...guess I need a scope level. The group total was about 3.5"...not great but ok.

BTW...we did have a special visitor that got out of the hospital and sat in for some much needed rangetime. It may be tough to put a name with the face...but take your best guess. He appeared very happy to be at the range.



After lunch he had a little rumbly in his tummy....so he needed some assistance to find the little boys room.

Glad you guys had fun, too bad more couldn't make it but I understand the fuel squeeze too. I'm having trouble justifying driving to the hills to bear hunt with diesel at 4.30 a gallon here. Give Dale our best.

WOW Hunlee is impressed with your long ranger!!!Out to 500yard too,,,Hunlee only shoot to 400 with 7-30 water Contender and not as good of group with 7-30 water!!!Maybe someday Hunlee will get a nice bolt action pistol like you but for today Hunlee will just keep shooting Contender!!!Hunlee is impressed!!!

As Dan said I was swapping TC's at the 200yds I used mostly the 22Hornet a new barrel for me this year and my old standby 30-30 win TC, at 300yds a couple shot with the 30-30 and rest was with 22-250 Encore. The encore in 22-250 and my Striker in 7-08 were the one for 400 and 500 yd targets. I am getting better at the longer ranges. As always a great time shooting with Dan at his home range and a lot of BS, and great stories and good food on hand. Hey Dan you should have never let Jim shoot your XP. he is looking for one now, thanks alot we visit the same gun shops.

Hunlee sure like to read about shooting pistol at long range!!!One day soon Hunlee will will try shooting out at 500 yard with 7-30 water Contender....Hunlee get this 7-30 water during winter month and now Hunlee have a nice 3-12x power Burris with billistic plex....Hunlee never shoot this far and have no idea where to evin aim with the 3-12x power?????Maybe the 7-30 water will not evin shoot to 500 yard????Hunlee not know

Ballistic calculators are you friend!! Plug in your data and it will provide a starting poiont to create drop charts.
