Just got my XP back together. It is a Jack Dever from Oklahoma City area silhouette pistol made back in the late 70's or early 80's. I got to meet Jack a few years back when he built a pistol for a co-worker. It is a 7x250 Savage w/Douglas barrel. Jacks stock work and machine work on the barrel and bolt. The bolt has a Sako type extractor. It has a Lyman back sight and a Redfield International Match front. I found a full set of inserts online.
I formed some new brass from some 250 Savage I got on this site and loaded some 140grn Remington Bulk and some Nosler 140 BT's. With the bad trigger I could keep it around 2" at 80 yds this last weekend. I have a new base and rings ordered for it and a new Weaver varible for this pistol. It had some trigger issues when I got it. Found out it was missing the front engagement trigger screw, wrong pins in trigger assembly and no detent ball for the safety. Found a trigger on this site, worked the old one over, sanded stock and put some finish on it. It still needs some hand rubbing.
I'm working on 100 pcs of brass and I'm going to try my hand at some open sight silywet shooting.
Mike

neat looking rig, sounds like it ought to be fun at the range.

The stock on it is beautiful.

I have more guns than I need, but not nearly as many as I want...

7 X 250 ?? Is that not the same as a 7MM IHMSA Just wondering. I have a bunch of brass with the 7MM IHMSA head stamp. One of the local dealers here has a Witchaw in that cal he only wants $800.00 for it the dies and 500 rounds of ammo. It has Bomar sights on it and is in very good condition. You can still get scope mounts for the gun from Witchaw but they are $85.00 and must be custom fit. I would have already bought the gun but those guns had no safety. You could leave the bolt open but i would want a safety for hunting.

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

I just found out in the last few days that the 7x250 is the same as the 7 IHMSA. I can use 250 Savage or 300 Savage brass. The 250 Savage brass is easier to neck up it seems to me.
It is a hotrod and is really shooting good, even with the open sights.
I have been to the Wichita Arms business several times and it is only 2.5 hrs from my home near OKC.
I could take it up there and get it checked over and have a scope mount fitted. The wheels are turning.

The XP needs the same base as the old 600 & 660 Remington I would just go Leupold on the XP. The Wichita Pistol is the one that needs the custom base. (Reason why is they made 3 different hole spacing for the same pistol so depending on the serial# they have to make the right one) As for the 7 IHMSA it rocks i like it better than the 7BR. You should approach 7-08 ballistics in the 15" tube. I had a 7mm International Rimmed in the T/C years ago but it nor the 7X30 I have will touch the 7 IHMSA If you top that with a 2.5-8 Leupold or one of the 3-12 Burris that would be a long range hammer
