I just got a new Encore barrel in 35X444 with a 6 whole base. What type of base and rings do y’all recommend putting on it? I was originally going to put a Leupold DD base and rings on there. But I figure if the 6 holes are already there, I might as well use them!?!

I use Leupy aluminum rings on everything, from 22 LR to 45/70, just fine.

I have Leupold DD rings on my 7mm Mag and 375 H&H rifles. I had them on my 45-70 pistol. I never have had any problem with them, it is just that my new barrel was drilled for the 6 hole pattern and I thought about taking advantage of it. I was just looking for some advice/help. I guess I will stick with the Leupold DD rings.

Since the holes are there I would use them. It's probably overkill, but a 6-screw base and 4 rings gives me peace of mind on my .45-70 barrel. Coyote Guns offers a 6 hole weaver style base. I don't know if they are back in business yet after their move though.

Salvage, s4s4u, and Pab, thank you for the help. I found the Weigand rings, but could not find the SC base?!? I was questioning weather I needed a steal or aluminum base. I guess there are just not that many options to take.

I don't know if this will make a difference or not, but I am putting a Burris 2-7 LER on it.

Coyote is back up and running. I couldn’t pass up on the price of the barrel. I will tell you this, Mr. Dustin gave me a ˝ dozen rounds ready to shoot in the chamber for dies. He went out of his way to help me on this barrel.

Stratton Base

Did you look here? I hope you have good luck with your barrel. Paul Dustin has had some ups and downs with his product, hopefully he is on the up now.

Well, I have read some good reviews. The main thing to me is customer service. The barrel looks great. As long as he stands behind the product, I will be happy. I have had my fair share of bad factory TC barrels.

Thanks for the help!

To have 6 holes, the taper on the barrel has to me different. It has to have more mass than the factory barrel.
