Evening Gents,

Im interested in putting together a custom XP-100 in the near future. However, I havent much of a clue where to start.

Id be thrilled if you fellas could educate me on who the folks are that do this sort of work.

There seems to be plenty of information out there for getting custom work done on T/C handguns, revolvers, and rifles.

But I cant seem to find much for the XP

Just about anybody that can do rifle work can do xp's. The only problem may be the stock. You might try GreTan or Allen Precision. I have a locate gunsmith that has built 2 for work so far. I think even SSK or Reeder will build them for you. Check out 6br.com for other smiths. Also there is a shop called Harts in Northern PA that does some impressive work. Just don't be in a rush for their work. My smith has had my xp for 8 months and hasn't begun work on it yet.

Thanks Mag,

Also, any recommendations where I can find just the XP action on its own?

That's going to be very hard to come by. I can't say I've ever seen just an action for sale.

So I would probably better off just having work done to an existing XP gun

Yes!
Find an XP at a reasonable price, then have it customized.
Greg and Kirby have both done XP's for me-Excellent work.

Kirby Allen has built four XP's for me including 223, 6.5 WSM, 284 Winchester, and 308 Winchester. All of these provide excellent accuracy. When I have another XP project, I will be calling Kirby. Good luck whatever you decide.

6.5 WSM? I like sound of that. Always liked the 6.5's. Ive been interested in that wildcat for some time. That and Ive also been considering the idea of a carbine in .375 WSM. You know, now that makes me wonder about chambering the XP in one of the WSSM's.

But for the XP Im debating between a .308 or a .260. A debate which likely rage on in my brain for the remainder of the year.

Speaking of WSM, have guys seen the article by Eabco.com regarding WSM's and the relative "bolt thrust" being bad for the guns, abnd messing up accuracy? Thats a first one on me.

(maybe I should save that for a new thread)

Switchman...I've also had work done by Kirby Allen of Allen Precision Shooting. He built me a XP in a slightly shortened 7mm WSM....matte SS Lilja barrel, Sako extractor, HS stock, Holland Lug, fully blueprinted action, DE brake, and steel bedded. It's flat out awesome!!! My last four shot group at 500yds went under 3.5"...with the "operate called" flyer....w/o the flyer, the three round group measured 1.25". That sounds unreal but this gun is capable of that every time out...its even been witnessed by a couple board members.

Be ready to shell out some bucks for that kind of work though...the APS built XP cost me in the neighborhood of $1600 w/o base, rings, and optics.

As a side note...I just put together a Striker with a McGowan barrel in .260 Remington. After a quick round of load development it is shooting under 2" at 400yds. H414 and 129gr Hornady bullets are working great. Total invested in this project is about $500.

Dan, wow that sounds great.

Luckily Im in a position now where I can afford spend some money on an excellent XP. Ive so far decided to get it fitted with a McMillan stock. That appears to be ambidextrous - good thing, since Im a lefty.

Im used to keeping my shots with other handguns inside of hundred yards. Just personal preference. So Im excited about the idea of a handgun that is that accurate for those kind of distances.

The XP Kirby built for me is chambered in 7mm Dakota (center-grip McMillan stock). I am also a lefty.
I tend to stretch things distance wise with mine & it is very capable.
