Okay here's the question to kick around a bit:
Could a Ruger Security Six, 357 magnum 4" or a super nice, just refinished Colt Python 4", 357 magnum be converted to .44 Special?? Who would, could do it?? Let's hear it..Thanks, ElDee

you would have to find a set of dies to start with layen around going new they are to expensive

You want to try Clements Custom Guns I'm sure Bowen or Jim Stroh could do the work. That is if you have the $$$$ to spend on it. Good luck in your search.

As much as you would spend on truly converting it, it would be cheaper to buy a new one. You are getting great advice on the custom conversions and the 357 Bain & Davis. Reeder has a 356 GNR that is a 41 Mag necked down to a 357 bullet. Reeder charges 150 for rechambering your revolver cylinder.

The answer is yes

Galliger has done this conversion on GP's and I think the securty six. (5 shot)

My next questionis why?

Just find you a nice 696 S&W and let-r rip

For what you would spend to convert the other gun you could buy a nice 696

Then you still have the 357

A comment on Reeders 356GNR conversion which is a 41 mag necked to 357....I had the cylinder on a S&W model 27 bored to this bottleneck round and found that I had too much case set-back and lock up before the advertised velocities could be reached.Also,
let me add that I used a 41GNR (which is a 44 necked to 41)in a Reeder
converted Ruger Bisley Hunter to make a 100yd shot on a trophy
aoudad. In my experience I`ve found that if your going with a bottleneck cartridge in a revolver...go with a single action instead of a double action. And if you are going to have this type of work done.....go with the best gunsmith you can afford and then borrow some more.PS just for the record Colt ran off a few tool room Colt Pythons in .41mag and 256 WIN Mag. And yes...
you could have a new 5 shot cylinder made for you Python or Ruger as long as you have the money to pay for it. Todays good gunsmiths are more like artists and like any good painting it costs......All the best with any future custom gun work,James
