Found this fraternity on the SSK website (http://www.sskindustries.com/hhi.htm). Worth the money? It sounds good but all the news on the webpage concerning HHI was more than four years old, which kind of spooked me. Maybe just a matter of bad updating of the website, but it would be interesting to know if there are many HHI members on this forum.

Mikewin, I have been a member of HHI since 1979. Good group of guys. Paper is mostly written by members, comes out bi-monthly. They usually have a group hunt every year somewhere. The HHI antelope hunt has been a big hit with all participants.

I'm a memeber. The "Sixgunner" news paper is a good read. They do have the one organized hunt for antelope I would like to attend sometime.

I'm with the other guys, I've been a member for 3 or 4 years now and I enjoy the paper and would like to eventually go on the antelope hunt.

I too have been a member for about 20 years and have sent in a couple of articles about hunting Mule Deer with my contender. I know some people on this site don't like JD Jones, but i have say that everytime that i have had contact with SSK Industries to order something or just ask a question, they have all been outstanding to me. Last November i accidently let my subscription lapse for the Sixgunner and i called Tammy at their office and she couldn't be nicer! She even sent me the copy that i missed! Nice customer service! Everyone should be a member!

Good info (not a current subscriber) and a lot of guys have had fun on the hunt.
Their hunt is one of two specialty handgun groups than have annual antelope hunts.
JD is a great business man and has done a lot for the SP world. All of my conversations with him have been good.
The products I have bought from him have worked good and when there was a problem it was fixed.

HHI is the best place for handgun hunting PERIOD. You get stories from members, who tell you how guns ammo and equipment perform from handguns. A must for real handgunners.

I have been an HHI Member for approximately ten years, and this will be my second year to attend the Antelope Hunt. IMHO the newspaper is very good, and JD is not shy about expressing his opinion on the latest gun legislation. If you really care about your rights to use and hunt with handguns in the future, you should consider joining HHI and every other gun rights organization you can afford. The storm clouds are brewing!

I don't know if I would go that far.
I think this site does a pretty darn good job all by itself!

(I too belong to HHI, for over 10 years)

Well,

now I've joined the HHI anyhow and Tammy at SSK promised to send me the membership stuff - including the issue of the paper released next week - ASAP. We'll see what happens...

I have been a member since 1982. Unfortunately I have never attended one of their functions but there is still hope! I do get to live a limitless diversity of hunting, travel, success and disappointment as read through the stories of my fellow members. Lots of good information too.

I've been a member since March of 1997. There is alot of great info on hunts & equipment. Not alot of BS, just facts of what works from those that enjoy hunting with handguns.

I have been considering joining myself. Don't know how someone found this old thread but I am glad they did. I like reading hunt stories by people who write and send it in. I have been recieving several magazines for a couple decades. I use to save them until I moved several years ago and realized if you had a couple years worth you had a version of every article written them. Sure equipment changes and there's allways some new food plot seed that will somehow transform nocturnal browsers into daylight grazers. I think I will give HHI a try and will probably enjoy a change of pace.

I would be amiss if I did not join in on this topic.

Handgun Hunters International is a great organization; more like a comraderie; as said the members write the stories for the SIXGUNNER which is the HHI Publication. Sadly, since I joined in 1985, I have seen its membership slowly dwindle from around 2000 members to less than 500.

As for the antelope hunt, in late winter of 1987 I called JD and ran the idea by him; he was very skeptical but gave me the go ahead. That fall I booked 21 hunters, including two women, for the first hunt. That group took over forty antelope. We found that was too large of a group, so we cut the future hunts back to 15.

After that I ran the hunt for the next 23 years, with an average of 15 hunters participating every year, including women. Most years there was a waiting list to get in on the hunt. Many handgunners killed their first big game animal on this hunt. Our antelope kill total for the hunt is over 600 antelope. Unfortunately, that handgun hunting history making hunt came to a grinding halt when in 2010 the Durham Ranch suffered a huge antelope die-off and my hunter quota was reduced to five hunters.

I felt that with only five hunters it did not deserve to be called the 25th Anniversary HHI Antelope Hunt, and JD agreed. So I am running the limited hunts there now under the name of Little Gun Outfitters Invitational Antelope Hunt.

If and when the Durham again allows me the 15 slots, I plan to put on the 25th Anniversary Hunt, and it should be a good one.

Every issue of The SIXGUNNER is asking for new members and more stories, and I am as guilty as anyone in not writing any stories lately.

But if any of you are interested here is the link:

I am HHI member since 1989. Great reading. But every issue is smaller than the one before. J.D. has to reprint old articles from past issues to fill the paper. Sad but true only a question of time that the Sixgunner is history. In every issue is a call "we need your articles".

I'm a charter member, 1978, have written beaucoup articles. In the old days had lots of members and a bunch of decent member hunts (like 2 nilgai on Kennedy Ranch in TX for $1500 with J.D. and Hal Swiggett for room mates, several preserve hunts). Sadly, as Greg said, membership has fallen, no one writes much for the Sixgunner, and the only hunt left is Greg's WY hunt. J.D. makes no money on this. Actually looses a little, but he gets pressure from the hardcores (like me) to keep it going. Join and write. I'm doing my story on this year's groundhog hunting and will be doing one in Feb. on my deer kills with full info about loads, bullet poerformance, and autopsy results on over 75 deer I've taken this year. It's the best $25 I've ever spent. It's up to people like us to keep it going or it will die.

I will be joining. Didn't even know it existed. Maybe we need to spread the word around a bit.....since it seems that handgun hunting is on the rise.
