FA just released a new single shot handgun. You can read about it and see some very detailed pictures of it at Gunblast.com Here is the link;

GUNBLAST, FA NEW SS PISTOL

I took a long hard look at it, I just don't know what to think. I guess I have too many questions to have an opnion of it yet.

What do you guys think??

I'm definately underwhelmed. I guess it depends on what it will sell for.

Being a Freedom arms,it will cost to much for me, unless I win the lotto! But it's nice to look at and I wouldn't mind shooting it.

Looks and functions much like the old Wichita Single shot. But rather than a 45 Auto frame setup it has a SA revolver type frame. This was a rock solid setup in the old days. They even still make these in special runs i have a friend that has one in 30-30 and 357 max. You can find them around for $800-1000 depending on shape and Cal.

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Neat. It's good that single shot handgunners have another option to choose from.

But as for myself...disinterested.

Ditto, because XP's report would be unbias because he would NOT be getting paid to shoot and evaluating it.

Succulently put. I have 2 Contender frames, 3 G2 Frames and 3 Encore frames. I am going to dance with the one who brought me!

You are correct and it shot real great too. Lots of fun!
I believe the case has also been slightly shortened.

I also shot the new SS break-open FA specialty pistol. I gave my intial thoughts in a new post.

Any velocity readings and bullet weight? It must have a sharp shoulder, to keep the case from "backing" out and cause cylinder lockup? Any thoughts Ernie?

Gary,
Feel free to edit out my explanation of my family stuff.
I would have written differently had I known you would have the desire to put it under in the article section.

Dale,
I didn't ask, but he had loaded a 40 grain NBT.
Personally, I was more interested in the SS break-open and did not ask as many questions about the little wildcat--Still, it was alot of fun to shoot.
My guess is that you cannot run that cartridge in a revolver like you could in another type of action without having some difficulty if you were take it to a high pressure level. this is also a protoype revolver and who knows what will be accomplished by the time the work is done.
I do know for a fact that Bob is very concerned about the safety of the shooters who use his products, and will be wise in giving out load data when that time comes.

In 2004 at the Sportsmans show in Harrisburg I had a nice long talk with Wayne baker, Bob's dad. He had a proto type round with him at the time a 454 necked to 22 cal. The plan was to chamber it in a Ruger #1. He was looking for 4,000 fps or a little better from it. I never heard if he got the project off the ground. I think Gary actually had a picture of it and posted back then here at HH. Sounds like Bob has the same ideas with a little smaller case. \:\)

Anyway I have had some experience with the "tapered" cases in revolvers. Not all great results. It's a cool concept but you can't run the pressure up to much or extraction becomes a problem in the neck shoulder area, and set back is always a problem if the case is tapered to much.

When you find out let me know Ernie, Thanks!!

I still have that case - it's a bad looking little SOB as you can see.

Very cool, Ive contemplated a similar config using a .500 Linebaugh case necked to a .30 or .35. But as stated before, I guess too much of a neck-down in a revolver could cause problems.

Would be an interesting number in single-shot though.

Dale,
I do not know how much taper the little wildcat 22 I shot had. With the load I was shooting, functioning was flawless. It was a neat little cartridge.

That's cool function was flawless. Bob might have the "bottle neck" figured out for a revolver and that's good. I think a high performance 22 revolver will be a fun gun for charlie hunting. The jet was fun, but fussy. The BEE revolver I have is a nightmare.

After visiting with Marc on the phone and then getting some information from Bob, I now realize I was shooting a 375 Winchester when I was shooting at the 500 yard gong.
The barrel is 14" long and has a 1-12 twist. The 225 grain bullet had a MV approximately of 2000 fps.
Without realizing it I shooting a new cartridge to me.
The .357 Magnum barrel has a 1 in 14" twist, and is 10 1/2" long. This one was a 180 gr. .35 caliber bullet. This is the barrel that Marc shot last and hit the 500 gong. Muzzle velocity is running around 1600 to 1700 fps.
During the match Bob was using the The 6.5JDJ and it has a 1 in 8" twist (NOT 1-9) , 14" long barrel. Bob's load was the Sierra 123 gr. at approx. 2300 fps.

I just wanted to give everyone accurate information about the handgun and the barrels, since I truly did not remember at the time.
