New member here. Great site! I have a Leupold 2X handgun scope on my Ruger SBHH .44. The scope is the older style with friction adjustments. The gun is not shot a whole lot but it seems like in between range sessions maybe 3-4 months I have a shift in POI. The gun has the factory rings and the gun is cared for very well. Did the older style Leupold have any problems with maintaining zero? Is it worth it with going to a newer scope with click adjustments? Thanks.

I have one of the older 2x Leuolds on a .357 Herrett 10" contender. It seems to hold zero well.

I've owned close to 30 leupolds and still have 5 and never had a failure or a problem with losing zero.

Welcome aboard, I would send it back to Leupold and get it fixed. They will make it like new and I don't think they charge you much if at all.

First of all WELCOME to HH!!

With this much time between range/practice sessions, it just could be you changing POI. Please don’t take any offense to this comment. But practice, consistent grip tension, and sight picture is paramount to constant POI.

If I go to the range and seem to be shooting low left all of a sudden I carefully analyze the next few shot and realize I’m getting sloppy, clear my head get my technique together and the POI seems to come right on with out "chasing" the scope. I have never had a scope "change" setting from storage.

I have a couple of old friction adjust Leopold’s and the one thing I have noticed is that at the time of adjustment they can ease back just a little from where you crank the dial. Like releasing a little tension, but once they are set they never move. I do like the click adjustment better.

I think it's much more likely that you are changing your grip between shooting sessions. The friction adjustment Leupolds are bull strong. I've got something more than 20 in service, some for nearly 20 years, with no problems.

It doesn't sound like the scope to me either. I think you would be seeing a shift in poi between individual shots if there was something wrong. The 2x Leupold is one of the most durable handgun scopes ever built. I've only had one fail sort of. A lens had a radial crack in it when I bought it. I sent it back and they repaired it in a couple days and sent it back to me no questions asked.

I had that problem with a lesser scope on a .44 Magnum. The recoil was shaking it loose. I have never had a problem with any of my Leupolds though. Also, as mentioned, they will fix it if it is actually broken. Also, make sure your mounts are still tight and not loose from recoil. Mine used to slide in the mount during range time. I changed to differnt mounts and a leupold and that fixed that problem. Welcome to the site!
