just got 1st contender 44mag . my friend has 1 but the hammer is different from mine. to shot rim fire in mine have to use a screw driver to change the firing pin . the safety is a slide bar with a pin to keep the hammer from hitting. is mine a after market hammer?

You have an early edition Contender frame, the selector (top of hammer) came later. If you post your serial# eg. 274XXX we can tell when made. Nothing wrong with them, other than being harder to open on the older ones. T/C will convert for you for a nominal charge.

That was built in the first half of the 1980 production year. You may want to consider an easy open conversion, and while they are at it have the hammer converted as well. I don't know what they charge for this anymore, used to be $35 but ???? now. With a good stout load the 44 magnum will do well past 100 yards if you do your part.

I sent mine to TC and told them that my wife had a hard time opening it and asked them to work on it. They sent it back with a full conversion for free. It looked and worked like new! Man it looked good. They even re-factory-blued the original frame to match all the new parts. I think it is suppose to be a 55-60 dollar fee. But it is all in how you approach it with TC!

I like that TC, your "wife" had a hard time opening it, wait till you grow up and you'll be big and strong like Rupe and I and you won't have that problem

You've got a good gun tcgreenhorn...Now the fun begins...How many barrels can one person own? You will probably find out how many you will own...Or how many you will wish you could own.
