Was looking at 45 ACP loads and wanted to know if anyone had any experience with them. 200+ grain bullet loads are preferred. I would be happy shooting Hornady’s 200 or 230 XTP bullets out of it, I just don’t have any experience with any of the powders.

I've played with my 45 a little bit and what I've settled on for now is 9.8gr of Hodgdon HS6, 200gr XTP and Winchester large pistol primers. I'm getting 1170fps out of an old Ithaca 1911 and fair accuracy. I think once I get the 8lb trigger pull fixed the accuracy should be pretty good but so far all I've done to the gun is replace the barrel with a Vietnam era surplus piece. The gun doesn't get shot much so I haven't spent alot of time with it but I do keep 3 loaded magazines handy just in case even though if I were ever in a self defense situation I'd rather have one of my single actions.
I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them. John Wayne-The Shootist

I will be sending the cylinders for my Blackhawk .45 Convertable to Cylindersmith tomorrow for reaming. Once they come back I plan on working up some loads for the .45 ACP cylinder.

Thanks gents. This is for a H&K USP Tactical 45. I don’t think I will be shooting past 50 yards on the long side. I have sent several different factory loads with it and they have all shot fine. I just don’t want to pay out the nose to feed it. BUT I still want to practice with it.

Never shot any Jacketed Bullets heavier than 185grs. (well other than hard cast 200gr. SWC's that is). I used to shoot a pile of the old Remington 185gr. Jacketed Hollow Point over a stiff charge of Alliant Unique. I was shooting them at 1080 FPS and accuracy was great.
I too am considering working up a load with 200gr. Hornady XTP-HP's, just haven't gotten around to it yet.
Back when I worked with the .45 Super Hodgdon's HS-6 came highly recommended. I used Alliant Blue Dot in mine with good results.

I load lead round nose in my 45 acp's from Leadheads. They have a 200 gr RN that I put over Unique at 7 to 7.5 grains for up to 980 fps *Lyman 48th ed. And I have used their 230 grain RN also with Unique at 6.5 to 7 grains for 900fps.

I have used Ramshot Enforcer under 200 and 230 Hornady XTP's with great success. Powder may appear to be on the slow side but it burns very clean and shines under the 230 grain XTP's.
Call Ramshot and ask for the data for Enforcer. I think you will like it.
