Hey guy's maybe i'm crazy but I'm considering getting a BFR in .450 marlin. I hand load and should have no problem in making a load. But I'm currios to see if anyone else has one or has shot one. Maybe someone could help me with load data as it only has a 10 inch barrel.I've got the wheel gun bug right now , and I have a licking for large cartriges. They just seem to get the job done better. I would get the 45-70 but I have a .450 in a marlin already. Also how far out would the round be good for and are there any articles on it for a hand gun.

Thanks, Lars

Hey man, it seems we have the same problem! If I'll succeed obtaining this fu**ing importation permit, I'll get as first gun the Precision Center model with both .45-70 and .450 Marlin cylinders. Believing in what they've said to me, long cylinder BFR are excellent revolvers, strong, powerful and accurate as few handguns all over the world. But, I say again, this is only what I've heard to say from some friends of mine (in Italy it is not legal yet).
However I want it and I'll own... I hope!

P.S. How long is really BFR longer barrel: 10" or 10 1/2"?

Thanks

I had the 7.5" 45-70 shooting 440gr CP's @ 1600= fps and it would shoot 2" groups @ 100yds with a leupold 2x on it. As far as max distance goes your biggest problem will be bullet drop, after 150yds it will start dropping quickly but it will still have enough energy to flatten a deer.

I have shot a BFR in .450 Marin for years and reload my own. I love this gun but in all honesty I had to make it mine by: had it ported by mag-na-port (beautiful job); installed Hogue large wooden grips and lighter hammer and trigger springs. My load is a Hornady 350 Grn FN or RN bullet over 49.5 Gns of Alliant RL-7 powder. The data for the .450 Marlin rifle (which I found to be very fine for the BFR) is in the Speer, Hornady and Nosler manuals. Also data available, on line, in the archives of GUNS MAGAZINE in the June 2001 issue in an article written by John Taffin. All the data I found uses Alliant RL-7 powder with various amounts for the various weights of bullets.

Also, be aware of the starting grains versus the maximum loads listed (I know you know that, but I feel better for having said it).

I hope this was helpful; and, good, safe and fun shooting.

I have a BFR in 7 1/2" in 45/70---What a beautiful shooter and recoil is mild. My 4" Anaconda with magnaport kicks more. Purchase either caliber and have the dealer send it back to the factory and they will fit another cyl of the other caliber for 150.00.
