I have been looking at a couple of used Burris handgun scopes at (what I think) is a pretty good price. I have no experience with this brand. What variations are a available and what is a fair price? All opinions are welcome!

Burris makes a good product. My only issue with them has been the eye relief, it is very variable. I have bought a couple of pistols with Burris scopes on them, 2-7 and 3-12 and sold the scopes shortly thereafter. I don't like the way the eye relief changes as the X's are turned up, or down. All scopes do this to some degree but the Burris' do the most of all I've used. Other than that, they are good optics.

P.S. As far as $$$ is concerned, $175 for a used 2-7 and $225 for a used 3-12 would be fair IMO depending on condition. I live by the 66.6% rule ;-)

Burris scopes have always worked well for me. They have held up to many rounds on my guns with the heaviest recoil (.45-70 and .454 Casull) with no problems. S4s4u has a point about the eye relief on variable models, but that is the only issue I can think of with them. They stand behind their scopes even if you are not the original purchaser also.

I have a 2-7x32 on my 375JDJ and it is doing fine since I got it back from Burris. I had the scope several years on my 30-30 barrel with no problems after a couple hundred or so rounds through it. I put it on my 375JDJ and it last six rounds. I sent it back and Burris repaired it at no charge and after about 30 rounds it is holding up fine.
A couple more notes about Burris. I do not have an unlimited budget and did alot of research before I shelled out the money for a Burris. I have not been disappointed. If it was possible for me I would put a Burris on all my barrels that have a scope mounted on it. With all my reading Burris also has the greatest field of view.

Burris handgun scopes from a decade and more ago were sometimes too long for their power, with long tubes and eyepieces, and shoirt objectives. In more recent years they are similar in size to Leupolds, still a little larger but very acceptable to me. I have several, the best are the newer, smaller 2x7s. I do not find the field of view change objectionable at all - it isn't like I'm constantly twisiting the ring each time I use the scope. I measure the difference between 2x and 7x at about 2 inches...

I agree with s4s4u, I like the scopes but not the eye relief on the variables. I shoot mostly hard recoiling guns and I have long arms so I need full eye relief on higher powers so I pretty much stick to Leupold in variables.

Hi there Hunlee hear!!!!Hunlee have nice 3-12x power Burris on 7-30 water barrel!!!!!Hunlee have short arm and fat belly and the 3-12x power Burris work out fine!!!!!Hunlee is wanting another for 375 windchester barrel butt no extra money rite now......Maybe Hunlee will be able to have one down the road but 2-6 xpower Bushnell will have to work on 375 windchester for now!!!!Life is good for hunlee

I have two, the 3 x 12 and the 3 x 9, no problems at all. Would purchase again with no hesitation!

Burris....a good scope with a company that stands behind their product. For me Leupold is #1 with Burris a close 2nd...

I have 3 Burris scopes and have had no trouble....yet.

When I buy used I have about the same idea as Rod, 60% of new price is a good deal. 50% or less is a really good deal.

Tred, something that I noticed hasn't really been addressed is which Burris scopes are you looking at.

The one I was looking at is a 7X fixed according to the add. Do they have different levels of quality or are all created equal. I do appreciate all the input.

The 7x fixed is quite an old model. They were pretty good for the day and still are up to a point. The eye relief is very critical, not as bad as it was on the 10x fixed but still kind of rough. I had one on an XP for quite a while and it's ok if you're shooting from a good rest. I think many, if not all of them, had a sort of target knobs. I don't think I would give over about $75 for one and it would have to be in good shape.

I have a 2x7 e-dot that is a 2007. That is what the guy told me that I traded for. I agree I don't like the eye problem. I am sending it back to burris to rework. when I get it back I am going to trade for a 2.5x8 leo or sell it. Good clear scope, But everythiing that I own is leo.

I have two and really like them both. I have one on a .450 Marlin and it is of the "lockable" type. No problems after several hundred rounds. I agree with the 66% rule on used pricing but ONLY on scopes with good guarantee eg; Leupold, Burris, etc.
