How would you rate the Taurus large frame double action, with 6.5" barrel, in .44 magnum?

I haven't owned one and the reason being I have read too many negative things about Taurus. I guess it depends on what the price is. I would consider a Smith or Ruger, just my thoughts. I went with a Smith 44 PC. As far as rating it, I would say on the low side. Considering that money could go towards something more dependable. On the other hand I know some people that have em and love them.

Jerry, I've owned two Taurus 44 Mag Raging Bulls and both of those were excellent guns. Very solid and pointed well. I think everyone should work within their budget and if this fits and you like the gun, give it a try. I'm sure it'll be a good gun if you're just starting out. Someday, if you stay in it, you'll want to upgrade though . . . I know from experience!

Rod, too.

They are good for the money. I've owned 2 Taurus revolvers in 357, a 6" model 66 and a 7 shot snubby. They shot pretty good. The company has come a long way in the last decade. But i would go for a Ruger. They are strong as you can get and, you can get Redhawks and SBH for about the same price or less than a Raging Bull. If you manage to blow one of those up, you got what you deserved.

A friend of mine had one and kept having timeing issues, customer service was horrible. 1-1/2 years later - 2 missed deer seasons and shipping and handling, then couldn't hardly anything for it. He would have saved hunfreds if he had bought a Ruger first, or even a S&W. He has a ruger now and NO WORRIES....

I had a tore-a$$ that from the begining wasn't right so I sent it in. Came back and still was not right. Sent it back again, after 3 months called to see what was up?? They sent me a new gun that had the same problem as the first and this gun also had a timing issue. I sent it back and after 3 more months they sent it back to me and said there was nothing wrong with it. After contacting the vice president about the problem, he says to bad so sad it's ok by our specs and that was that. NO customer satisfaction period!! tore-***=JUNK!!

I would also suggest a Ruger Super Blackhawk or Redhawk. You won't regret it. You'll take your chances with the Taurus; more bad ones than good.
I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a handgun today.

I would spend a little more and go with the Ruger, they are the toughest and most reliable of the factory guns. S&W makes a sweetheart of revolver but they are more expensive and won't handle the hot hunting loads the SRH will and if you like single actions then Ruger is the way to go unless you want to step up to FA or a custom.
I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them. John Wayne-The Shootist

Go Ruger if at all possible. If you are one of the lucky ones that gets a good Taurus then great, but what happens if you get a lemon? Hold out for a Ruger.
