What do you avid revolver guys think of Taurus? I have noticed that they are cheaper than many of the other makers. What are the big differences?

I personally have only known one taurus owner. He has a .357 magnum 8 shot revolver and he loves it.(he is also 6'5" and a measley 325 lbs,and leans toward the bigger handled guns)I havent shot it yet but according to him and another friend it is a very accurate gun.Anything else would be just speculation on what I have read on the net.

I would save for a Ruger Super Blackhawk or Super Redhawk. The taurus is a hit or miss gun. You can get a good one or a lemon and dealing with the factory can be a real pain. I'm hearing more and more about the lemon side of it.

You can buy a used Ruger for about the same price. In the long run, you will be a lot happier!

Well, I'm not buying anything. I just try to soak up info when possible. I don't see you guys talking about them much so I was just curious. Two of my friends have picked up S&W's lately and we looked at pretty much everything while they were deciding what they wanted. I noticed Taurus being less expensive and wondered why...

When it comes to Taurus, you get what you pay for.

Hey Brother,
The Taurus product is an overall reliable one if kept within it's intended purpose. I've owned 3 of them over the years and literally dozens of everything else. I got good service out of them until I fired some hotter loads (around 1100 fps) out of one of my Gaucho 45LC revolvers. I was told by the dealer that it would handle them, I later found out that Taurus only recommends rounds under 900 fps. I had it serviced and then sold it, but it did have Great fit and finish though. It just wasn't a Ruger of which I own five and are just made tougher, but I'll admit not quite as pretty. They (Taurus) do have a lifetime warranty though and Ruger doesn't. It depends on what you want it for, I'd use the Raging Bull for hunting if I had one, I just prefer Rugers

Good for you, you are one of the lucky ones. We have SEVERAL members here who have had much less satisfactory experiences than yours. I have 5 Ruger revolvers, and 2 semi's, and never have had a need for warranty work. I'll stick with what works even if it may cost a little more. Once again, you may get lucky with a Taurus but a Ruger is a sure thing IMO.

I bought my taurus tracker in .44 mag "new" in January of this year. I have onley put 150 rounds threw it and I get a cylinder lock up every time I go out to shoot it.

I found that the cylinder is to loose and hits the forcing cone. I did not even bother with sending it back to taurus,I just three weeks ago sold it and bought a new Glock 20 10mm.

The reason for buying the Taurus was to have a double action woods gun for the critters here in California, and if I cant trust it in the field "I DON'T WANT IT."

Good move Slim. That could be a really bummer to need it and it locks up on you. After reading all the negitivity about Taurus on this site, I wouldn't buy one for anything unless I could do a quick turn around and make a few bucks on it.

I would stay away from tore-a$$. I had one that wasn't right from the factory. I sent it in on my nickle. It came back 2 months later still wrong. I sent it back on my nickle again. After 3 months I called to see where it was. They could not get parts from Brazil to fix it so they sent me a new gun. This gun was wrong and had a timing issue as well. I sent it back on my nickle.
I'm starting to run out of nickles. Anyway they had the gun for another few months then sent it back to me and said there was nothing wrong with it. After I talked with the vice president, he basically told me the gun was mine and to bad so sad that it complied to thier specs. Absolutly no customer satisfaction. tore-a$$=JUNK!!
