Finally got a friday off and took some pistols to the range. Frist was the MOA in 376 Steyr. What a hammer. I have lusted for one since I read the article on this site by Gary about the barrel he borrowed for JDJ. Loading the Hornady 225 Interbonds with Varget. Put a Burris 3x12 BPlex scope on it. I really like the Holland QD break works. Almost zero muzzle rise. It comes straight back in to the palm of your hand. It is good now from 100 to 200 yards with the Bplex scope.
One photo has a 223 Rem next to the 376 Steyr for comparison.
The target is numbered in order of shooting and setting the scope to zero.
I'm ready for a fall pig hunt. I got several 2" groups at 100 yds with the 225 bullets. I have some 260 Accubonds loaded now and will try them this weekend.

That's awesome. I'm going to "need" an MOA one of these days. I can't get over the scope mount that looks like it's not very well secured but obviously it is, I've never heard anyone complaining about it not holding up.

The mount is very strong.
There are several tight fitting pins that go into the action/base as well, besides the screws.
The base can be set up to basically go back and be flush with the back of the action as well.

I have a couple of pig hunts on the calendar if things work out. I'm going to look at some new hunting land that is supposed to be covered up with hogs. I will keep you informed.

Thanks for the kind words.

COOL Hawkeye.

The MOA is a cool pistol. I have wanted one in 338 Federal for some time. But I think it's going to be "some" time before I get it. LOL<LOL<LOL

Mike,
How would you describe the percieved recoil or how would you compare it with a another known cartridge/gun set-up?

Ernie, that is a good question. The break is what tames this beast. After reading your post I sat and pondered the question for a while. I think my .375JDJ Contender w/14" barrel and .260's has more recoil. It does have the Pachys so it is a little different feel. My Ruger SBH Hunter in 45LC with the Buffalo Bore 300 grn bullets seems to be about the same but the Ruger comes up with authourity.
This is the first Holland break I've used and this pistol with 225grn SP's and a full case of Varget only rises about an inch. It does come straight back into your palm. It is not offensive but stout. I will have to do more comparisons the next range visit.
I have figured out how to do videos with my camera and camcorder and load them. I will do a video the next outing.
I hope Rich Mertz has some time for me to visit with him during the Wyoming antelope hunt. I would like to leave the MOA with him for another barrel. The jury is still out on the caliber but I'm leaning real hard towards the 6XC by Tubbs. I just have to do more reading and look at some other options. The 6mm caliber is the only thing I don't have covered.

Rich has the 6mm-6.5x47 Lapua or the 6x47 Lapua Reamer in hand, and I prefer that to the XC cartridge.
