New to the forums and was wondering if anybody has shot a 460 s&w encore. I just got the barrel and want to use it for deer this year but I need to practice. It is my first hunting handgun and havent had a chance to shoot it yet. Can you shoot 454 casull like the revolver? And anybody have scope and mount suggestions.

Welcome sw1006..I'm new too but I love it here and I bet you will too. I have not shot an Encore in 460 but I have a Smith & Wesson 460 XVR. I would think that any chamber designated 460 S&W Magnum will also shoot 454 Casull and 45 LC. But don't take my word for it..I'd ask Thompson/Center before I tried to shoot anything other than 460 Mag through your barrel just for safety's sake. Let us know how you like the 460. There's another thread on here about hunting with the 460..check it out! As for mounts and rings I would suggest all steel. Not for certain but I believe T/C's bases and rings are steel and would mate to your Encore perfectly. Scopes..pick your poison! It's all about personal preferances. I chose a variable over a fixed power to better help me maximize the long range capability of the 460. Good hunting and stay in touch!

Good call. I have really enjoyed the Leupold duel dove tail mounts and rings. They have held up on my 7mm Rem Mag AND my 375 H&H. They look a little different on the Encore but this picture will still give you an idea.

I got the t/c gorilla rings and base. The base is a 2 piece design and has to have special rings. The rings mount thru the base so I hope the hold. I also got a bushnell trophy in 2x6. Was going to go out last weekend but do to having a new baby cant seem to find the time to. Hoping to get out this weekend to try it out. What do you guys have your zero set at? I plan on using hornady loads for hunting.
