Hello All, I am new to the handgun hunting deal. I have a glock 20C and today I bought a 7.5 inch Ruger Redhawk! I shot about 100 rounds out of it today and love it so far! I am ready to sit down at the bench and see what it will do then work up some handloads for it! Anyone got any holster recommendations? I will be riding a four wheeler alot shooting hogs with it as I am trapping for one of the universities here in Mississippi. Nice little forum here! I will try and post pictures when I can!

Ducks, Welcome aboard. The group here is full of knowledge, experience and are a great bunch. Any questions, just ask and you will get more answers than you can sort out in a day. Congrats on the Redhawk. You could try a good quality cross draw style. This would work for riding the four wheeler better than a strong side holster. I use slings for all my hunting handguns. I have swapped the factory grips for Hogues. I replace the nut and screw with a sling stud. It is a little extra work, but I prefer this method. A shoulder holster will work as well unless you use ground blinds without any chair or hunting stool. That caused me to start using slings. Good luck in your search and again, welcome aboard. Rick

Hello there Ducks! You have found a good crowd of people hear! You will find plenty of help here if needed. They have done pretty good for me as I am also new to the handguning! I just got a Bandoleer Holster for my S&W 7.5" and it is quite comfortable. Hope to see some good pics with your Redhawk!

Welcome aboard ducks. If you're looking for a bandoleer type of holster then have a look at pistol packaging, they are listed on the links page under supplies.

Alright I will give a little background on myself now! I am 22 years old, just graduated from the University of Mississippi and am part owner of an Aquatic Habitat Restoration service where we spray noxious weeds out of an airboat and other small boats. I love to duck hunt and bowfish! I have shot a few non-serious pistol competitions but nothing too crazy.I am always ready to gain knowledge from those who have more than me on a subject. I have been around a bit but I feel like I need another hobby haha so here it is! Here are a couple pictures of some of my hobbies! My New-to-me .44, My 2nd newest toy now since I got the .44 (My little brother on the way to shoot my AR) Good night bowfishing.. My biggest Gator Gar so far.. Me with a few Geese (we killed 1205 over 2.5 days) A deer taken with my bow.. My lab Buck with a few ducks Buck with a few more Geese I have WAY too many pictures!

These are the folks who hunted believe it or not! I am the second from the left. We made an assembly line and one of the stipulations of the hunt was if you did not help clean them, you would not be invited back! Well everyone stayed and we cleaned them, all the geese in the picture have been breasted out and are breast down. We brought back about 200 gallons of breast meat for sausage and the rest was given to some needy folks around the camp. The Arkansas Game and Fish Officers actually took 20-30 of them for them too! It was an Awesome trip to say the least!

Wow! That's unbelievable! What's the limit on geese there? Where I used to hunt (Oregon) it seemed we could only take a few a day.

Thanks guys, those geese were taken during the special conservation season where there is no limit on the number of geese you can take. We ended up with right at 2,000 for the season. It was an unbelievable year and I have not heard of anyone doing much better. During the regular season I believe you can only take 25 light geese, 2 specks, and 2 Canada geese. I have killed my share of deer with rifle, muzzle loader, and bow I am just hoping to start hunting with a handgun since honestly there is nothing challenging to me anymore about shooting a deer with my rifles. This year I plan to hunt the majority with my pistol and bow. I am going to start uploading pictures to the brag board soon!

Thank you James, he is a character! He will kill himself trying to pick up that last bird or to make me pet him. He truly is one of the finest hunting companions I have ever seen. Ducks, Deer, Dove, Squirrel, you name it he's probably hunted it with me. He's a dog of many talents! He loves my farm! We have about 6k acres he runs on when I am out there! This day he had been running around and was tired, I thought it would make for a funny picture since he is in front of a cotton bale.

Welcome Ducks and congrats on the recent graduation. Its good to see another duck hunter on the forum. I also just graduated...I attended the University of Oklahoma (Boomer Sooner). I hope I can find a gig as cool as yours because the office thing really doesn't sound that good.

Hey ducks, another welcome to the forum here. As far as a holster goes, I carry my ruger blackhawk on a cross draw rig I made myself. Since I'm a rancher, I spend a great deal of time on my four wheeler, and the cross draw rig was definitely the way to go for me, only problem was I could never find anything I felt was really secure with the right angle to be comfortable, so I had to make my own. I'll try to post a pic of it, nothing fancy, just functional, and it really wasn't all that hard to do.

I would really appreciate it! I have a little fun money job starting up September 1st trapping and killing hogs for a study done by one of the colleges up here and really need a good holster as I will be riding the four wheeler checking the traps every day! Thanks again for the welcome!

I am really looking forward to it! I will be trapping on 23,000 acres of land and they are paying me to do it! I will also get to keep whatever meat I want and will be able to give alot of it to some needy families so it seems to be a great deal for everyone! I think I am supposed to trap about 275 hogs over 12 weeks at least thats what we're shooting for! I will post alot of pictures I can assure you!
