When I picked up my FA`s in .44mag I also ordered a Burris 1.5-4X
and figured it would be a nice medium game gun without the heavy kick.I made sure the scope had the posi-lock feature to secure the crosshair from any recoil. Made a nice handload of a 240gr
XTP over a good charge of 296 and it shot 3" groups at 100yds.The other day while checking the gun I found that the crosshair came apart where they join at the center. I fired no more then 50 rounds of factory ammo and handloads through the gun.On checking I found that the posi lock was in place and the 4 Weigand rings were also locked with friction tape on the inside of each ring. My biggest problem with this is that I have to package the scope and send it off for repairs...This is why I like a T`SOB mount and Weigand rings so when I go hunting I have a spare scope for my primary handgun that can be quickly changed with a few sight in shots...have you guys experienced scope failure with Burris scopes???

James, that's the first incident I've heard dealing with Burris scopes. I've owned 4 Burris pistol scope's and still currently have 2. I have always been very pleased with Burris and have never had any malfunctions. Maybe you just happened to get a lemon. I know even the best company's, occasionally, has a lemon product but, that doesn't help the inconvenience of the matter. How is Burris' customer service handling the situation? KRal

I've had about a dozen and a half. I had one fail in 1981. Others have performed well. I don't like the posi-lock idea.

I've never had one fail personally, but nearly everyone I've heard of that did fail had the posi-lock. I agree with 500WE above; I don't care for it myself. I think a little "room to move" internally for the crosshairs is good. They are attached to the inside of the inner tube and all that vibration is trasferred from the gun, to the rings/mounts, to the scope tube, to the posi-lock screws which apply pressure to the inner tube. Seems to me it would amplify stress to the crosshairs. A scope w/o the posi-lock allows the inner tube to "ride" on the springs during recoil reducing stress transferred to the crosshairs.

I use this analogy. Driving down the road holding a cup of coffee in your hand on the console; you hit a bump and it goes everywhere. Shock transferred from the car to the cup. Now hold the cup in the air and hit the same bump; the coffee hardly stirs. The shock can't be transfered to the cup from the car. It is suspended.

Now that some have mentioned it, all of my Burris scopes have been without the posi-lock. I personally didn't like the idea for the same reason bisleyfan44 has stated...KRal

Beside the fact they can change the POI after being set. I made sure my new
Burris’s didn’t have them!!!!!

I think Gary said it best when my last Simmons scope died. Gary correct me if I am wrong but most scopes die at 1, 50 or 500 rounds otherwise they last forever.

I have head great luck with Burris scopes. I have 2X, 4X, 2-7X and 3-12X but never the 1.5-4x. I have had them on everything from 7-30 Waters through .45-70 and never had a problem with one. I only have one with Posi-Lock and had no change in impact when it was set, but Burris does warn that this can happen.

I would not be surprised if it was the Posi-Lock that caused the failure. After hearing of so many issues with the Posi-Lock, I think I will back it off next time I go to the range and and leave it that way. It does not seem necessary since none of my other Burris scopes have ever shifted from zero under heavy loads.

Hope this proves true. I have put at least 2,500 rounds through my SRH 44mag and no problems yet with my simmons pro hunter.

I have had good luck with the Simmons so far. Have one on my rifle and muzzleloader, and now the 629. I did have one shatter from a 357 on the 5th shot, but I believe it was because of the mount that I used. It just screwed into the rear sight and just clamped to the barrel. I may have spent more on a better scope but with money going to gun, reloading, bullets, brass powder...well you see where that is going. Dam hunting takes some moola!

Gentelmen, I can understand your reason`s for why you feel the posi-lock feature may be responsible for the crosshairs breaking in my Burris 1.5-4X,however let me again say that the scope was not mounted on my 454 or 475 but on a 44mag.Less then 50 rounds were fired using the 240gr bullet and more then half of these were factory ammo.Like I stated in the first post ,I bought this gun for medium game without the heavy kick of a 454 or 475 and none of the only 50 rounds I fired were heavy loads. Right now I own the following Burris scopes: 3X...4X...5X...1.5-4X...2-7X...
and a 3-9X.The 2-7X has the posi-lock and I`ve never had any problems with it or any of my Burris scopes until now.This is why I feel the problem was caused more by a manufacturing defect of the crosshair rather then the fault of the posi-lock.My 2-7X with posi-lock was originally mounted on my FA`s 454 until recently when I moved it to my FA`s 353 where it continues to provide excellent service.When I return the scope I will include a copy of this entire post to give Burris some feedback on their scopes from the people who use them.I will post their reply if they include one.Thanks from your friend in Jersey......

James, it sure does sound like you have a factory defect. Let us know how Burris handles it.
