Is anybody using the 10.5" Super Blackhawk for hunting? I was down at my local gun shop and they just happened to have in-stock a Super Blackhawk Hunter and a 10.5" Super Blackhawk (both in .44 mag). Call me crazy, but I thought the 10.5" model blanaced better. Any issues with the longer barrel? I realize that a holster may not be an off-the-shelf item, but anything else?

Thanks,

Jesse

Actually, Uncle Mike's makes a few holsters for the 10.5" SBH and I'm sure there are others. Both choices are excellent ones. The Hunter offers the flexibility of being ready for optics if you choose that route. Both models are generally extremely accurate in most cases and either would serve you well. You can't lose with either.

the Hunter also has the Bisley grip which I feel is better for recoil. My SBH eats & shoots about anything Ifeed it from 180 to 300gr jacketed bullet to the variety of cast bullets

The longer barrel should give the lighter bullets more velocity. With the 300gr’s there isn’t much difference between the 4 5/8 and 14 in. My SRH has a 9.5 in barrel on it and a 2-6 scope AND I love it. For carrying as a back up I would chose a smaller barrel. For a primary hunting handgun I would say the longer barrel is first rate!!!!!

If you do not plan to scope the gun the 10.5" bbl will give you a longer sight radius and most likely allow you to be a bit more precise with your shots. If you plan to scope the gun other than balance and added weight that contributes to reduced recoil I see no real advantage in the 10.5" bbl

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

i hunt with both models, both have scopes and i dont really see an advantage from either one. the 10.5" seems to have more recoil than the other when loaded with heavier loads i guess thats from the longer tube.

If you like it. Buy it & shoot it. It'll be like carrying an ol Buntline. Besides then you'll have an excuse to order a cool custom holster. I've had numerous different Blackhawks & Super Blackhawks. Not a lot of difference.

I like the longer barrels on my handguns. I have two Ruger Super Redhawks with the 9.5" barrels. One is scoped. I have a Bianchi holster that fits the scoped gun very well and I have a Pistol Packaging leather holster for the unscoped gun. All my Dan Wessons have 8" barrels. I like the extra muzzle weight.
