What is your experience with NBT's on deer size game? I am loading some very accurate loads with them. I have never deer hunted with them. I have a buddy that is not too fond of them. He claims bad performance on a deer one time but to me his story doesn't sound right. What sort of experience have you guys had with them.......

I've had great results using them in my 270win rifle. Since I started reloading, I have shot 3 deer high in the shoulder and they've all dropped in their tracks. I double lunged a doe and had a great blood trail to follow. The bullets have all exited the animals. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another box of NBT's if I hadn't semi-retired my rifle.

I use 120 B-T's in my 7-30 Waters 'Tender and .284 Winchester XP-100 and they work great in both. That tells you about their versatility. MV's from 2350 in the Waters to 2800 in the XP. If you are hunting thicker skinned game you might be better served with a partition or accubond for penetration but B-T's work fine for whities and gov't dogs.

Rod, too.

All of mine have been good:
Muleys, whitetail, Antelope, and even a couple of elk.

I agree!! I use them in my 30-30 ack and they work wonders. Although I have never recovered a bullet, They bring my game down with one shot.

140 Nosler BT at 2250 FPS out of a 7-30 Waters. Deer shot at 20 yards.

Deer sat down and never moved again. Did a wonderful job!

They work GREAT! I can walk to the Nosler shop from my house. I have used their BT's for everything from 70gr in a 6TCU (14") to take Antelope, 120 gr in 6.5 TCU (10" and 14") for Antelope and Deer, 140gr in 7mmX57 (Ruger #1)for lots of deer out to 300 yards and the 150gr in my 30 Bower AK (14") for deer and my biggest Antelope which was out at 309 yards. All were one shot kills, all the bullets were factory seconds. When I get to the bigger animals I use the Partition's.

Don't listen to that "friend"!

I have shot Nosler Ballistic Tips for more years that I care to remember from both Rifles and Speciality Pistols in several different calibers / chamberings. I have never had one let me down, and have never recovered one either.

Great results, for 18 years...it's all I shoot in my T/C's for whitetail. They've dropped many in they're tracks...KRal

There great! I've used them exclusively for the past 3 years on whitetails in my 30-06. They are extremely accurate and every one of my deer has either dropped or walked 5 yards and dropped dead! All of the shots were under 100 yards, and I haven't been able to recover a single bullet, there was always a 2 inch exit wound on the other side. The shock damage to the lungs turns them into jelly. I load the 125 grain BT, to about 3000 fps and can manage 2.5 inch groups at 300 yards, using varget powder and winchester primers(and a very accurate Savage 110) You wont be disapointed for deer size game.

You didn't mention what you wanted to shoot them in. I have been using them since they came out in rifles at first and now in handguns. I have taken deer with them in my .243 Encore, 6.5JDJ, 7-30 Waters, 7-08 XP, 6.5x308 XP, 338JDJ#2, 30-06 Encore, 309JDJ and some others. Never had a failure. All one shot kills from 80yds to 405yds. I think from my experience they work even better at pistol velocities. They still do their job but are not as explosive as from my rifles I used to shoot.
I have taken deer, antelope, elk, hogs, coyotes, and prairie dogs with them. Get them and you will be happy.

I recently used .308 Win 150g Nosler Ballistic Tip to take Chital. I wasn't all that impressed. The Chital is a bit bigger than a Fallow but is still a light bodied deer. I found that on a through the chest heart/lung shot, the projectile didn't exit. I recovered the projectile from the the opposite side. On bringing back home I weighed it and found it was only 70% of original mass. While it did the job, I wouldn't want to use it on anything more solidly built or tenacious. In future I'll probably go back to Nosler partition style.

Always had good luck with them in various calibers on deer. Your friend may have had a "bullet placement" problem that caused the poor performance. Also many of the 22 cal BTs are very fragile intended for varmints; not sure of the caliber he used, though.
Good bullets.

I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a handgun today.

Hello all , i`m new here but thought I`d say that Hawkeye nailed it . I have taken whitetail with 150gr NBTs in both .308 pistol and rifle and in my opinion they were just too messy out of the rifle (26in ) but work great at handgun velocity .

I personally have had good results from the Nosler Ballistic Tip bullet. I have never had a bad experience with them.

I've loaded ammo using the Nosler BT for some friends in 7 Rem Mag, 308 Win, 30-06 Spr., and 270 WSM, that have all killed deer and antelope with these loads. All have perfomed very well.

For everyone that has had a bad experience with the Nosler BT, there are others that have had a bad experience with another brand of bullet.

Bottom line is that the Nosler Ballistic Tip will work on deer size game.

Now, if you need to satisfy some mental block about using it, then by all means try the Nosler Accubond. It is essentially the same bullet as the BT, but with a bonded core/jacket. I've had excellent results with it as well.

Regards,
Rog

The doe I mention in my post was taken with the 120gr bt's out of my 7-30 and the performance was devastating, the two entrance wounds were within 1.5 inches of eachother behind the shoulder and angling back and uphill. they both exited mid body and I could put my fist in the hole, they took out 3 ribs.

I used them in a 308 and 243 and I didn't like them for in close stuff. They seem to do more the farther away.If the shot is over 150 yards they work great.JMO

Hate them! Lost 2 Mule Deer with them. Shot an Antelope thru the lungs and all my friends asked what I shot it with?! It looked like I shot it with a shotgun!!!

Shatter on shoulders and blow up on lungs. Loved the ballistics, hated the performance.

A lot better bullet is either the Swift Scirocco (sp?) II and/or the Barnes MR X. Both FAR superior to the Nosler Ballistic Tips, especially in hand cannons. Same ballistcs, better performance.

The only thing I use Ballistic Tips for are on varmints where they are suppose to blow up!
