Tigger had asked the question of what game animal would you choose to hunt if you were only allowed one. The answer`s were varied from whitetail to elk with everything in between. My question is what handgun and caliber would you use to take your animal of choice?? The animal I picked were large, mean, black boar and the handgun and caliber would be my Freedom Arms 454 with or without a Leupold scope....

If I stick with my first choice of elk, I would go with my 7.5" open sighted BFR in .454 Casull. I was on the fence about switching my choice to small game (undecided between squirrel, grouse and rabbits). I would go with my Ruger Single-Six .22lr if I chose to go with a small game species. These are decisions I would really hate to be forced into.

I picked whitetails and at this point I would go with my S&W PC .460.

squirrels =definitely the .22lr auto pistol-open sights browning buckmark. you sure can get alot of shots off at them running-unless the occasional jam-which at those points i sure wish it was a revolver!!!

Good one James, I would still have to stick with the whitetail, and of course I would have to use my S&W PC 44 since it is the only handgun that I have!

OK, cool James. I picked the woodchuck "charlie". My first handgun was the DW 357 Max and its great charlie medicine. The BEE is very accurate and a fun gun to shoot. The 223 barrel on my Encore is a tack driver for a factory barrel. But I must pick only one. That would be the XP100 in 221 Fire Ball. I have taken the most charlies with this gun. It's very versatile with bullets from 35-60grs. Very economical on powder and light on recoil. I have done some customizing on the gun and have a few more things to do.

That's tough. Where we hunt whities shots can be from 30 to 300+ yards. I use my .284 XP or .308 Competitor on field stands, and 41 SBH Bisley or 45LC Bisley, or 'Tender 357 Max or 45/70 in the bush. Given only one it will be the 44 hybrid I am working on for the Striker, when it gets done, until then I'd have to pack my 'Tender 7-30 Waters with 1.25-4x scope for all-around use for now. It's not a fair question IMO.
Rod, too.

I would have to go with my Freedom Arms 475 Linebaugh. I havn't taken any game with this gun yet, but it has become my favorite. A 400 grain ball going 1100-1300 fps will take just about anything on the planet.

I chose grouse & a 16ga SXS w/double triggers & english grip. Specific enough? Were I to choose any big game it would be my Mod 83 454 scoped or unscoped as James stated. Hands down.

SBH Hunter in .44 mag. I like my FA .454, but the Hunter is more fun to shoot.

Well, my "only one" choice was wild turkey, so my weapon of choice would have to be my 45/410 T/C Contender with 3" Winchester #4's...but please, don't make me choose only one...KRal

That's tougher than the first question. I'm primarily a revolver guy but my favorite spots for mule deer and elk are in areas where shots will be at the outer most limits or in excess of my favorite 475's so I guess if I had to pick one it would be my contender in 375JDJ that should handle anything from deer to elephant.

James, excellent question as usual from you, if I can only pick one it would have say wild Boar. This is tough but I would go with my 375 JDJ w/ a 2.5-8x Leupold.

I chose wild pig. As for handgun of choice I would have to pick the 12 in full bull Bullberry’s I have in 44 Mag and 708 in the Encore.

I choose Coyotes also in the first posting. With that said the choice would obviously be my SST Super 14 .223 G2 Contender with the 3x12x Burris LER Handgun Scope.

Wow! Only one gun. Sure hope we never have to make that choice.(read:"GET OUT AND VOTE!") Since I chose whitetails, I will pick my .308 Win. Encore pistol. If I can only have one, things must have gone horribly wrong, so I may need the extra reach to insure the family is fed. If I'm just picking for fun; my Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter .44 Mag w/Bushnell 2-6X will be fine.

This is what I thought Tig's question was gonna be when I first read the title of his post. I'd have to go with my new-to-me FA 44 with 240s for deer and such or 320s for the moose. Really a great caliber in a great gun.
I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a handgun today.

I chose whitetails. My choice in rifle would have to be the 270. In handgun I like the extremely versatile 44 mag which is my favorite handgun round, but I have not yet had a chance to get the Encore pistol in 270, which just might change the name of the game for me. But for now I will stick with the 44mag. Vin

I would be torn between whitetails and squirrels. For whitetails my striker in .300wsm. squirrels would be have been a contender with 14" barrel in .22lr.

I picked whitetails. I would have to go with my 480SRH. It's the only handgun I have that i would use to shoot a deer. I would rather use my bow. But that may be just because I have bowhunted since I was 7. In WV, we only have a 2 week firearm buck season, 1 week doe season, and 1 week muzzleloader season. I really enjoy using my pistol when I draw a doe tag, but that usually is once every other year.

If I could only hunt one game animal I would have to choose the Whitetail Buck. My choice of weapons in a rifle would be the Savage Model 99 in .300 Savage. In a pistol I would have to choose a Contender, either my 14" .30-30 or octagon barrel, 10".45 Colt. If "game animal" included birds, it would be a toss up between the Whitetail and the Ruffed Grouse or partridge as we call them in the U.P. As a matter of fact, if I could only hunt one animal, one bird, and one fish - I would choose the Whitetail Buck, the Ruffed Grouse, and the Brook Trout. Would use a side by side 20 guage for the grouse. Not sure what I'd shoot the trout with.
