Anyone w/experience using a red dot on a thumper (IE 454 & up) please chime in. My only experience is w/Eotechs on sub guns. I'd like one on my Mod 83 454. I'm leaning toward the "heads up" type w/selectable reticles if possible. Any help is appreciated.

I had a bushnell trophy with multiple reticles on my BFR in 45-70 for quite a while and after a couple of years sitting in my desk drawer I put it on my 410GNR (454 necked down to .41)while I waited for the scope I had ordered for it and it still worked fine.

Rod how was the target aquisition? Did you find it fast enough for you? Thats one model I've been looking at. Where I hunt is so thick. 65 yrds & under is the norm. It's not a spot & stalk thing at all. Unless I'm in ambush mode the scope can be a detriment. I miss Iowa!

target aquisition is very fast and what I like about that model is it has a 3moa dot whereas most sights are 5-6moa. With my BFR I'd shoot 2-3" groups at 100yds. I use variable and fixed power scopes and the red dot aquires the target much faster than my scopes especially because you don't have to be squared up with dot sight like you do a scope and even if the dot is not in the center of your sight picture if it's on the target your going to hit it.

I use a millet dot on my FA 454. I really like it. It is a lot faster than the scope that I had on it for a while. With inexpensive dots there is some paralax so you should try to have the dot centered. With some of the more expensive dots there is no paralax and if you can see the dot that is where the bullet is going.

Millet still sell that sight? I knew they did a while ago but haven't heard much from them. Tried to find the Nikon dot sight but it looks like they discontinued them.

I used one for my Bear at 80 yards it was a perfect shot. I had it mounted on a SRH .454 .

What kind do you use Rupe? So far I've narrowed the choices to Bushnell Holo or Trophy dot (thanks to Rick I realized Bushnell makes the Millets). Or, the Nikon VSD. I'm leaning toward that one. I'm trying to get a grasp on how big the a Holo would be on top of the Mod 83.
