Tell that to our deer camp neighbors. These shot from a game cam about 7 miles from our camp, near the Canada border about 40 miles west of NoDak.

Wonder what it will do to the dog populations. We've had problems with Timbers and 'Yotes.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Nice pictures, any idea how the pictures came about? Did they place the camera there because of the dead deer or did the cats kill it right there in front of the cameras?

Down here in Louisisana someone got some pic's on trail cam and everyone was saying no way till the state wildlife had something on their site. I was gonna copy the pic's but they would go nut's
and start thinking I was saying this was from here even though in the post I would say where it's from. Cool pic's.

Nice pics! Those young ones should be heading off on their own before too long. Of all the time I have spent in the woods, I have only seen 2 lions.

We have so many cats here that in some areas of the state the season is open year round. But I have yet to see one. But there are times when I feel I'm being watched. spooky

The cougars have been being reported down here in Iowa for the last 4 or 5 years now.One was actually hit by a county mountie on patrol.Lots of sightings and I think one picture that the DNR said was a housecat. Also I think one was shot this year as well as 2 cases of bears getting shot. Both of these critters do not exist in Iowa so therefore there are currently no laws protecting them wich means continuous open season.
The guy I work for said he woke up a couple nights ago to the cows across the road in the pasture bellering and raising hell at 4 am and when he got up and headed for work at 6 all the cows were in the road and had broken down the fence. I Dont think it was coyotes,as I dont believe the cattle are bothered by them, any thoughts on what else it could be?

Grizzly bear is the only other thing that I know of that would scare cattle like that. I doubt you have Grizzlies in Iowa.

cats will run cattle through a fence and they will take down a full grown cow. I've personally known of several attempts by cougars to take down full grown horses the last of which was about a month ago about 15 miles from my house. I have never heard of a successfull attempt on a horse yet but I'm sure there have been some. I've seen 7 cats in the wild including a spotted kitten that ran across the road in front of me so I'm sure mama was nearby and I've knowingly been stalked once and had one cat lay in wait for me which I missed and was probably lucky I didn't shoot myself when it started to pounce.

I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them. John Wayne-The Shootist

In one of Fred Eichler's Traditional Harvest videos, he comes across a 330+ bull elk killed by a lion. They could see the tracks in the snow where the lion stalked the bull, then jumped onto it. The lion rode the bull for a ways and wound up breaking the bulls neck. Not only did the lion kill the bull, but he dragged it about 50 yards to where he felt safe, before he started feeding on it. Anyone who has ever field dressed a big elk knows thats not something easily done.

Eastmans video High and Low in Mule Deer Country, has footage of a lion killing a good sized mulie buck. While he's killing the buck, the lion takes many kicks to the head/body and does not even seem fazed. Both of these videos gave me a lot more respect for lions than I had before.

I heard reports about 2 months ago of a farmer that had a pasture full of horses and they all got run through the fence and one of them had a claw slash on his hindquarters. This was about 5 miles away from the other incident I spoke of.Of course the Iowa DNR denies any such animals exist here.Lots of hilarious rumors thaT THE DNR stocked the cats to help curb the deer population,I laugh my ass off every time I hear that.
I saw a series of pictures someone took probably out west,It was of a cougar trying to get at a couple horses, one pic showed the horse stomping at the cat and another pic showed the horse throwing the cat with his teeth ,the cat definately was owned by that particular horse.I may start carrying the .480 ruger in the car back and forth to work in case I get a chance at a shot.

Years ago my child friend swore tracks he found in the snow were too big to be a bobcat (upstate New York). Which we have plenty of. Low & behold just 3 years ago mountain lion is seen trotting down the shoulder of the road in West Sand Lake during evening rush hour. Many witnesses & our ENCON (Environmental Concervation) tried to poo poo it until somone got it on camera.

That was it I believe. My uncle was one of them who had seen it. He's hunted all his life & felt it was a young one. I don't know if there have been any sightings since. But then again they cover a lot of ground & are reclusive. Figures ENCON would doubt it. Most of the new ones don't even like hunting! The Iowa sightings are probably more prolific. I lived there a while back & they had one kill a goose in the city park. Small city surounded by farm land. I'd like to see a come back. But that will cause lots of fighting over hunting versus relocation & some hunters who would want them eliminated.

maine loggers trappers and woodsmen have for years been telling tales of mt. lions for years. well this year the head of the if&w said we might have a mt lion passing through our state. gusse that its on its way down to the foxwood casino for vacation. on the other hand, if a wild life dept. stated that the st. had (pick your odd animal. the feds would step in make the dept spend a hole pile o $$. there gose fish stocking, bird habitat ect.
