with all the political issues facing us as gun owners there is one main organization that has the clout to impede the liberals and that is the NRA and specifically the NRA-ILA. I challenge every person on this site that has not already done so to join the NRA, last I checked it is only 35.00 a year and for those of you that are members make a initial contribution in defiance of what just happened in this election. I just donated 50.00 which is on top of the normal donating I do every year but I made this donation with the specific purpose of putting my money where my mouth is. Here is the link to the NRA-ILA contribution page.

This is a great idea! We need to encourage all gun owners (and anyone who values their freedom) we know that are not members to join too.

another option you have if your not already a life member and you would like a life membership but can't afford it is the "easy pay life" membership, it takes the 750.00 and spreads it out over I believe 4 years. I'm not up on everything since I've been a member for quite a few years but as far as I know this program is still in effect. I did this for my wife a few years back to keep from getting skinned alive for a lump sum payment but now we are both life members.

Excellent idea Rod. I have been a life member for a while and I send in money thru out the year when I can.

You guy might want to think about becoming a life memeber. The NRA has an easy pay plan of $25 every 3 months. That's only $8.33 a month. Check into it.

Mack I was getting the same thing. So at the NRA booth while I was at the sportsman show in Harrisburg I complained. The fellow behind the desk gave me a form to fill out and all the mail stopped. I'll bet I don't get 3 or 4 letters a year from them now. I don't even get the entry to the big gun/hunt sweepstakes. Something you might want to look into.

That's a common complaint but they do it to try and raise money from those who otherwise may not donate. Getting a membership is only the beginning, since many members don't continue to support the NRA financially then they have no other choice than to flood everyones mailboxes with junk mail. I figure most people can easily afford a couple hundred dollars a year and most can afford more than that especially if it's broken up over the year.

I think the point is regardless is that without them we very well may already be like Australia or most of Europe and if we don't want to end up there they are the only organization with the assets both human and financial to stop it.

Golden Eagle and 2nd Amendment member.....when you live in a state like New Jersey and own firearms you find out very early how bad things can get with the freedoms that were originally granted to its citizens. When I visit states with light gun laws all I can say is "don`t stop fighting for your rights" because I know that the people that want to take away these`s rights will never stop.....Give `em hell.......

I'm w/Jersey! I live in New York. Few can rival us for the liberal crown. I've been a life member at least 15 years & I don't mind ignoring the junk mail. However. I have family members I can sign up. I'll either start w/my wife (serious obama hater). Or my oldest. A 10 year old daughter. One of them will be a life member soon. To put it more bluntly. Screw every !@#$%^&*()_ who turns their back on the Constitution or tries to take my rights away. I wish them the slowest horrible end lucifer can imagine. After all they do his work.

What BINGO said x 10 It's BS to change something that this country has fought and died for, for over 200 years. Anyone that wants to change our Constitution should be thrown out of the country and see how good they had it here vs somewhere else!

Well, response to this post hasn't been what I expected it to be and I can only think of three reasons.
1)You already belong to the NRA or a similiar group and are doing your part to maintain the integrity of the 2nd Amendment and did not see a reason to post.
2)You don't think there is any reason to be concerned over the future of the 2nd Amendment, in which case you should try to be more informed.
3)You are what I like to refer to as a recipient of 2nd Amendment Welfare, in other words you leave it to those of us who take the threat to the 2nd Amendment seriously to carry your sorry butt by financially backing organizations like the NRA.

To those of you in the first category, if you haven't already done so make a post in support of this challenge. For those of you in the second category ignorance is not an excuse and to those in the last category and I hope there are none on this forum, get a life and pull your weight.

As a second part to this challenge I just bought my 8yr old daughter a life membership in the NRA and I bought a one year membership for my kids that live with my ex. I'm also planning on giving two to three more gift memberships for Christmas and I hope any of you that can will do the same.

I'm not a member of the NRA but I am a member of the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners Organization.

As for your 3rd catagory, feel the same way about people who can but have never served in the military and talk about protecting our Consitution.

You can say that you support the troops all you want, but your actions speak louder than your words.

You know some of members here have alot of money tied up in firearms and $35.00 a year is not to much to pay to keep from lossing those firearms. The NRA is almost like an insureance company but they are trying to insure your right to keep those firearms as well as fighting to protect our Constitution against some boneheads that don't think we should have it and follow it.

Got myself a NRA members because of Obama, but I also bought my cousin one, he is in the Airforce and gets to play with bigger guns than me : ( , oh well.
Oh and I like rifleman magazine good reviews.
Has anyone every hunted with the Judge model handgun? I think it can take 410 shotgun shells, which might be useful on small critter up close.

well as of so far besides the Life Memberships my wife and I already had, I bought a life membership for my 8 yr old and she has been running around showing her card to everyone and telling them she is in the NRA and today I let her blast away with a little reworked Heritage Rough Rider I have, I'll post a pic of it later but the gun is hers she just doesn't know it yet. I bought a one year membership for my other kids that don't talk to me anymore hoping that maybe if they read something with common sense they may absorb it because they won't get it from their mother or jack ass step dad. Last for now but not for good I bought my brother inlaw a one year membership because although he believes in the second amendment and owns guns he go sucked into the assault weapons bs, thinking that they are unneccesary and that a ban on them wouldn't affect him until I explained his 10/22 was next and Clinton had tried to broaden it that far when he was in office. I'm hoping with the new reading material and our conversations will show him the truth. Keep it up guys I'm glad to see so many of you backing the NRA and remember to do the best you can to donate throughout the year.

My question is : It's said that there are 80million + gunowners in this country. Why is the membership of the NRA only around 5 million. I've been a Benefactor Life Member since 2002. Been a Life Member much longer. Where are the rest of the gun owners? Jack

Good question, like any product, because you own a car does not mean you join AAA.
Also based on my experience, there are several groups of gun owners which are arguable.
1. those who own for protection,
2. those who are hunters,
3. Those who bought just to say they have one (one type gun owners)
4. and then the hobbyist/collector gun owner like me,

I seen women buying pink revolvers, hunters buy $3K Weatherby, individuals their first and last handgun, and collectors by rare handguns : )
Each one of these groups have different distributions,
Here are my very rough estimates by population (which could be way off)
1. protection, = 30% to 50% % of population
2. hunters, = 20% to 30%
3. one time gun owners = 10% to 15%
4. hobbyists = 2-5%

But by # of guns
1. protection, = 10% to 30% % of guns
2. hunters, = 30% to 50%
3. one time gun owners = 1%
4. hobbyists = 10-15%

Note hunters and hobbyist I estimate own large percentage of the guns by volume but not by population.
Now if you look at those individuals who would join NRA, you could say it would be the hunters and hobbyist. Maybe 20% to 40% of hunter would join the NRA and all hobbyist would Join. SO I estimate hunters 30%*0.2= 6% and with hobbyist move it up to 8%. Now 5million / 80million = 6 % so I am off on my estimates but the analysis is some what close.

So to answer your question in short, there are not enough hunters and hobbyist out there to make much more than 8 million members. Hence strength will have to come in strength of support not in numbers. : )
Thanks
Brian
