I just ordered a Contender in 6.8 spc. I'm trying to figure out which scope to buy for it. I was thinking along the lines of a Burris 4x26mm, but maybe I need a little bigger objective and power. I will be hunting deer, hogs and varmint. My range maybe out to 150-200 with a rock steady rest. Which scope would you put on it?? I also need to know how does one go about putting on a Bipod on it. It will have the black forearm; as it is the SS model. You comments and suggestion will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Shane

Welcome to the form! The 6.8 is a nice little round. I would look at a Weaver 2.5-8… but that is JMHO. It would make those 200 yards shots a lot more user friendly. If it was a bigger round I would look at a 2-7 Burris. Duane Here is the Weaver on a 7mm TCU

If you're going to use it to shoot big varmints like coyote then a 4x would be fine. If you want to shoot little ones like PD's then you'll want more power like a 2x6 or 2.5x8 or even higher. You might consider the 2x7 Burris with the e-dot. They are pretty slick and would be nice on hogs when it's getting dark. To install a bipod you'll either need a barrel clamp or go to a Pachmayr or wood forend and use a sling stud. Personally I don't like bipods like the harris, for example, because they will change the point of impact due to their weight on the front of the gun. If you never shoot with out the bipod then it isn't an issue.

I have a bushnell 3200 series 2-6 on my contender for shots out to 200 yards it is good as the man holding the gun or better. for the price it is a good scope.

Welcome piwonka! I would lean toward either a 2-7 or a 3-12 Burris for a flat shooting round like the 6.8. Let us know how it shoots!

WELCOME to HH piwonka!!
All good suggestions above on the scope. A midrange variable will fit the bill.

If you have the $$ you can't go wrong with the 2-7 Burris or the 2.5-8 Leupold. I also like the 2-6 bushnell Trophy for the value.
If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking about the burris 2-7x32. I've spent that much on the pistol; so I might as well put a nice scope on it!! I like the fov and eye relief of the burris!! My pistol should be in Tuesday and I can't wait. I've had several revolvers before, A lone eagle .223 and a striker .22-250. This is my first t/c and my first larger caliber pistol. I've also had a glock 20 which I could shoot good out to 50 yards with the big sights, but this should fit the bill much better for hunting!!!

all of the scopes mentioned would be good choices but I have to admit I'm partial to Leupolds but they will run you 200.00 to 300.00 more than the others mentioned but in my opinion they have the best optics and are the best built. I think the most important thing is to buy the best optics you can afford. I've often heard it said that it's better to have a fair gun and excellent optics than vice versa.

All of the scopes previously mentioned are excellent choices. Now I'll throw one more in to think about. Nikon, I currently have two, a 2x and 2.5x8. Both have had many rounds of 475 linbaugh passed underneth them so, they are built pretty good. They have excellent clairty and a fine-plex reticle, which I prefer. They are reasonably priced for their quality. There's an article in the members area on the 2.5x8 that you may find interesting. I also own Burris, 2x and a 2x7. The Burris 2x7 has a larger objective lens, at 32mm. I also own a weaver which is very clear for the price. Leupold, is probably one of the best built and is a high quality scope but I do not currently own one. It's not cause it cost $200 more than these others but, because I personly do not like the reticle. If I had to say the best all round scope, for the money, it would probably be the Burris 2x7....just my 2cents...KRal

Thanks for all of the info fellas. I decided on the Burris 2-7x32. I can't wait till everything comes in Wednesday. I'm going to try to get my spike with this pistol and a few hogs. I already got my buck with my bow. I can't wait to go hunting with it. I decided on the t/c, bacause I wanted soemthing a little more challenging than rifle hunting!!!

The 6.8 is a nice little round,I have personally taken deer with one. When you decide to go chasing pigs make sure you get a well constructed bullet as you are somewhat limited to bullets of 110 gr or less.BTW,I have a Burris 2-7 on my 450 marlin bbl and it is my favorite scope.Keep us posted, you made two wise selections.
