Dec. 1st is opening day here in Pa.,and I feel like a kid waiting for christmas! I have been to the range three times the last week and a half. Rifles and pistol are ready to go,still have to play a little with my slug gun. It's close, but not close enough.
I was working seven days a week most of the summer,so I didn't get to scout much, but at least I will get to hunt.

Good luck with your opener!

thats great. glad you are excited especially. most of the time i used to be, and i sure hope i get that back sometime. this yr....i coulda cared less if i went, and had no desire at all to kill a deer. i made myself hunt the last 3 days of season. of course it was a unsuccessful event also, since the deer had already been chased for 2 weeks prior by my shoot anything movin neighbor. lol...good luck

I know what you mean Dan, Where I'll be hunting in Huntingdon Co., just carrying my 44 would be silly. I have a 7mag that I have never shot anything other than paper with, and a 270 that I handloaded for the first time. I have never shot anything with the 44 either, and shots could get pretty long, but man, if one walks within range of the Redhawk...
I figure I have three tags to fill, and three guns(four if you count my shotgun for spcl regs areas),Good luck and safe hunting to all.

I have also been kicking around the idea of getting a contender or encore for another new toy. I read about you guys playing with new barrels and loads and you make me jealous! Hunlee, you got me thinking 7-30 waters!

KYODE, have you ever thought about pursueing another critter to put the spark back into hunting? What about waterfoul? Kinda hard to shoot with a handgun, but I hate to see someone down.

no health problems i know of, but thanks for asking. just no desire for deer hunting. may be forever....may be temporary, i don't know. handguns are the only thing extending that desire now.
i reckon i could be getting old er sumthin?!? 45 ain't that old though....is it?

could be the hectic life of 3 kids?....n hunting adds more to it?

not trying to drag others down.....youins enjoy every minute of it! handgun hunting is super!

i have been wanting to do some squirrel hunting, but i would not even jump the creek to go hunt ducks....lol

KYODE...I have felt that way before...I can sympathize. For me that feeling has been a result of losing site of why I started hunting in the first place. Sometimes I place to much pressure on myself to get a deer other than just going out having fun and harvesting what the land provides. Enjoy the sites and sounds and take whatever comes along if thats what you want to do. I have let many a deer walk becasue I just enjoyed being in the woods and did not want to end my outing that way.

sureshot43...go get'em man! I was excited to get out for the first time with a hundgun on our opener...was very excited. We expect a full report with pictures when you get'em...shoot straight!

Well, I just got back from my hunting camp in the U.P. I hunted 13 days out of the 16 day season and saw a number of bucks - several of which were shootable ones. Even though it was the first time hunting with a Contender, I didn't pull the trigger. I still very much look forward to the deer season but, after 40+ years of deer hunting, I don't have the same desire to shoot a buck as I did up until a few years ago. These days I pass on most shots, telling myself I am waiting for another "big one". Truth is, I enjoy the camp life, time spent with family, the chance to spend extended time in the woods, the chance to observe nature, and the "thrill of the chase" far more than the actual kill. I especially enjoy the second week of the season when there is almost no one in the woods. It gives me a chance to do some still hunting - to me the most challenging and rewarding hunting method. Yes, I still enjoy the hunt but for different reasons these days.

Mike
