Shot him from about 40 yards with my 4 3/4" FA 454. He was about 15 minutes behind a group of 4 does.

Yep front shoulder going in took off the top of his heart and out right behind the leg on the other side.

Way to go, Gary. Nice wide buck. I recently picked up a previously owned but basically brand new 4 3/4" .454 83 also. It's quite accurate and I'm very pleased with it.

I used Winchester's X454C3 load. It is a reduced recoil load but still very capable for hunting and very accurate; roughly equivalent to a .44 Magnum. 250 Gr. XTP.
Load Details

I shot this one today with the same load. In VA we have to shoot a doe before we can shoot a 2nd buck and another before we can shoot the 3rd. Overall I saw 6 bucks today and about 8 does.

I did learn a lesson today though. Don't drop a deer in it's tracks if you intend to keep hunting the same area. Some other deer came in and saw her laying there dead or perhaps caught a whiff of blood and spooked pretty hard. Everything is very close in there where I was hunting but I know they didn't see me. She literally was dead at the base of the tree I was in and a buck got within about 10 feet of her and came unglued.

Especially with the fact that Gary is only 5'-1", it make the deer look big.
