Dumped this fella about 3 hours into the PA opening day...a basket rack 7pt. Range was about 80yds, bullet entered in front of the onside shoulder, exited center on the offside...his feet came off the ground and slammed his stomach before he ever hit the ground!

This is only the second buck I have EVER harvested on the opener. Shot him in a creek bottom near my house...my climbing stand, 30# pack and the buck made the trip out interesting...it was an uphill pack job the ENTIRE way! I got to w/in 100yds of the house and had enough...dropped everything and went for the Kubota.

Black Death...that's the 15" SSK .338JDJ w/ 180gr NBT's at 2520fps, topped w/ 3-12x32 Burris and wrapped in Pach's.

Two weeks and two doe tags left...time to drag out the LR hammers!!

Way to go Dan. It's nice not having to drag very far. I don't think I've had to drag either deer this year more than 60 yards combined. It's so dry here the ground is hard as a rock in most places.

Heck...I had 60 yards to just get around a steep ravine before I could even start to the house. Had the better part of a 3/8 mile...and I'll say it again...ALL uphill w/ most better than a 30 degree angle. The ground is frozen but a 35-ish degree morning made the top 2" into mostly slime.

The worst part...I'd do it again in a heartbeat!!!

I am to much of a wimp to carry or drag an animal like that.
That is why Steve and I quarter and de-bone in the field-Makes for a lot less weight.
Some states will not allow this to be done, and I am glad I do not live in those states.

WTG Dan. Congrats on yet another Handgunned Whitetail.

I can relate to the drag job. Mine was about 350 yards on the level and I was pooped when I got to the blazer. But then again I am older (yeah I know you'd think I'd know better).

Ya done good bud !

I only gave the quick version...I did not tell that he popped through the edge of the powerline and played hop scotch from thicket to thicket for 100yds until he finally got to the creek...then entire time I was holding on the next opening in front of him and he'd dart through it..."DANG IT!" and so on and so on. I saw he was going to hop the creek and an opening on the far side would be my last chance...then he'd be in the clear cut where all deer vanish. When he popped over the creek and his feet hit the ground...I acquired the site picture and next thing I know....I was holding a warm, empty piece of brass in my hand in amazement that I had taken a buck on the opening day.

The L2600DT is an awesome machine for sure!!! I also have a smaller loader, 17hp Satoh S370D, that I'll use for tight spaces, plowing snow and mowing the yard. But the 'Bota w/ 27HP and power steering see's most of the chores for carrying deer, bringing wood, cleaning up around the yard, and moving heavy snow accumulations.
