Great book with lots of guns from the hayday of silly-wet. Lots of pictures and info that make it a great referance work. This has to rate right up there with JD Jones book "Hunting for Handgunners".

It came in the mail today and I sat right down and read for almost an hour and didn't realize the time had gone by. I'm either hopelessly hooked on handguns or really board. LOL<LOL

The Weatherby on the cover is sweet looking and retailed for $799.95 back in 1979.

That is a good book. I found that book along with Handgun Hunting by Nonte and Juras and Hell I Was There by Elmer Keith at a used book store a while back. It was a good day!

I have both the other books you mention. Both are a good read.

Nonte was quite the experimenter, the choke he built for the revolvers was interesting to say the least. LOL I have most of the books Nonte wrote or edited.

If I remember right, Hawkeye owns a couple of the guns pictured in Gates' book.

COOL, maybe he can tell us about them.

Check this link out; Weatherby Pistol
I guess $799 in '79 was a deal as to what the original run of Weatherbys go for now at auction.

I wonder if they are great guns or just rare and in relatively high demand...?

From what info I have gathered the first run of Weatherby pistols was about 200 toatl. The 2 calibers available were 22-250 and 308. So I guess the rarity pushes the price up quite a bit. I have heard mixed reviews on them. Some shot good and some didn't. I vaguely remember something about the laminated stocks being thin and have a cracking problem on the 308, but I could be all wrong. If anybody has better info please correct me.

The new run of Weatherby pistols are a rear grip type and retail for about $1,000.000. Still pricy but if 20 years passes and they go up like the first ones did it might be a good investment.

This gun was outlawed

The auction stated the gun was outlawed. I wonder why?

EXCELLENT!! This is too funny. pab1 that is really funny you mention that book. I bought it yesterday on e-bay for $8.00 shipped. I have been looking for it for a while. What a coincidence. LOL<LOL<LOL

I'm hoping it has a lot of "new" material from the first one. I'm really interested in the DW section. Hope it's informative.

Just flipping through, it looks like all new material. I got mine at the same used book store I mentioned before for $3.00. I need to stop by there more often!
