Hey all, I talked to Rod on the phone today. His surgery went better then they thought. Instead of having 3 fusions like me he was able to only have 2 which makes a big difference, so hopefully he will be able to get out there and get things done after he heals up sooner the first thought. He will be in the hospital until Friday he thinks, then he will head back to Tillamook, Or.and home. He had a bad day yesterday but he was feeling alot better today and they had him up taking a few steps today. He was sounding pretty dopey toward the end of our phone call so we weren't on to long but he sounded in good spirits. He wanted me to tell you all "Hello" and he'll be back as soon as he can. So if you would all join me for a short Prayer for his quick healing, I'm sure he would appreciate it. So Rod, we will be praying for you and that God will Bless you with quick healing and recovery so you can get out into the wilds of Oregon and hunt once again. In His Name Amen

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers guys. I just got home a little bit ago, I was released on Friday but had to wait until today (Sunday) to come home because of weather conditions on the pass but even with a 100 miles of packed snow and ice the trip went smooth. Like Rupe said the Dr. found that L3-L4 was solid so they fused L4-S1 but she also said the damage at those two levels was much worst than what the tests had shown. I had some extremely large bone spurs pushing on the spine as well as severe arthritis, in fact she said instead of back that looks like it's 40 mine looks like it 40 years older than me and to top it off she thinks I have osteoporosis so they are testing me for that on my follow up appt. The Dr. also said when she removed the disc the compression of the spinal cord was so severe that she was able to watch it re expand and then start to swell which is why I had a bad couple of days. I'm feeling pretty decent now but I'm re thinking having my wrist surgery in 6 weeks because I'm just plain sick and tired of needles, IV's, meds and metal being implanted in my body. I figure by the time they are done if I decide to be cremated when I die I'll have to make arrangements for a big box because all this hardward aint fitting in a vase. I figure I should have enough titanium in me to make at 3 or 4 329PD's

Dude...I've seen pics of you. Even w/o the hardware your arse ain't fittin' in no vase!! Besides, what GUY asks for his ashes to go in a "vase"...you must be on pain meds. I'll send your wife an empty powder keg for your ashes!!

Good to see you back on the board again ROD!!

I have osteoporosis from all the heavy steroids I was on. I have lost close to 20% in my hips and spine. The treatment is real easy just one pill a week. Basically old lady medicine.

I try and drink lots of milk for the calcium. I go for another DEX scan in february and hope to see a marked improvement.

I'm with Dan, an 8# H110 can will be just right for the ashes. LOL<LOL

Tig, I have been on steroids at least every two or three months for the last couple of years and that's one of the thoughts on whats going on but they had done some blood tests that showed high calcium levels which normally indicate cancer or hyperthyroidism but the feeling is that it is most likely not cancer because I should have other symptoms if it is so they are leaning toward a possible thyroid problem. I have to get a bone scan and see an Endocrinoligist when I go back over.

TCman, you can relax about the meds. I'm not on much higher of a dose than before the surgery now. The thing before was they hammered me with high doses out of the blue and it took a while for me to acclamate to having them in my system. Don't worry I'll be as reserved and withdrawn as always.
