Have any .44 mag whitetail hunters used bullets in the 200gr
weight range?

I've used 180's on deer through a Super 14 Contender. Book data said they should have been going near 2K fps but I never ran them over my Oehler. Shot a few deer with them and all were chest impacts. Wound channel was awesome!! Exits wound were wicked big!!

Sierra JHC.

I used those when I was a novice reloader. The data showing 2K fps from a .44 Magnum caught my eye so I stoked those loads w/ W296 and started killing deer. I've since moved to the super heavy cast bullets in .44's to reduce surrounding tissue damage.

I've used the Speer 200 gr. jacketed magnum hollowpoint on occasion with complete satisfaction...large wound channel, complete penetration.

James,

I've had great success with my 200 gr XTP handloads...several bang-flops, fall within sight, and only one long-blood trail. That episode was due to shot placement and shot angle (directly below my climber)...however, the visually impaired could have found that deer with the resulting trail!

Dur

when i had my 14" 44 barrel, i tried the "fast" lightweights, but the 240gr loads gave me better accuracy. had they shot better....i would have kept it up a while. i think chrony velocity was in the 1900+fps range.
i've always just shot 240's in the redhawk.

I have tried the 180 XTP I never shot a deer with them but I did shoot 2 hogs and that did not work out so well. The bullets expanded great (about the size of a quarter) However one of the jackets seperated the bullets only went about 3" into the hog. I shot one pig 3 times the first shot was between the sholders @ 17 yds the second was behind the sholder @ 20 yards or so and the 3rd was a Texas heart shot running away @ about 40 yards. JMHO I would go with the 200 Minimum I think the 240 is best but I do use the 300's in my t/c's

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

I shoot Remington 180 grain JSP in my Super Redhawk. I found an article from a guy that was getting 1900+ fps out of his Super Redhawk. At the time, I was shooting 180 grain Core Lokt rounds from my .30-06 at approx 2200 fps. Based on that I determined they were adequate for deer. They generate enough energy at 100 yards and they group well from my gun.

I have not reached out and touched a deer at 100 yds yet, but when I do I will let you know how it goes.

I've killed several with a Sierra 180 JHC.

James, back when I owned a 9.5" SRH, I bought some bulk 180 gr Remington JSP and had good results. I originally bought them for plinking but, turned out to be pretty accurate out to 150 yards, shooting 3" groups at that distance so, I tried them on whitetails. I had them loaded with a max charge of 2400 and if I remember correctly, where scootin' around 1900fps. They performed fine on southern whitetails. I killed 5 deer with that combo, never retieived a bullet...one deer was at 105 yards...straight through both shoulders....KRal

My Dad loads a 200 gr Barnes X. The cavity inside the hollow point is huge. 100% weight retention. Shoots Good too.

I shot a few does with the 180 xtp and they worked pretty good. Not as good as the 240 xtp that I use now though.

Hey James. When I was shooting my 629 Classic I was using the Hornady 200 gr. XTP hollowpoint. It was rated at 1500 fps. Shot my last deer with it at about an honest 100 yds Dropped it like it was hit by a train.
