Filled another deer tag, actually, I filled 2 tags Sat. First one with a Contender in 7-30 Waters and the other with an Encore 25/06 rifle.

The firearms season's are about over with but I've got 2 more tags yet to fill this wknd.

Congrats Boartuff! Looks like some heavy cover around there. What was the shot distance and what bullet did you use?

To this point now, I've gotten 2 whitetail, 1 mule deer and 3 pigs with handguns in '08, using 6 different handguns and 4 calibers....30/30 Win, 375JDJ, 7mm-08 and 7-30 Waters.

2 more deer tags in my fanny pack and a date with a blackbuck the first wknd in Jan. and a hog hunt mid. Feb. If I tag out, there should be enough meat in the freezer to last til next season.

Yep, the cover is pretty thick, although my friend put me in a stand that had nice shooting lanes cleared. The shot was only 45 yds, and sitting in a two-person ladder stand with a shooting rail, it was a nice opportunity.

The wind was blowing upwards of 30 mph, and actually in the direction I saw the deer standing there. Dunno how it got to where it was without me seeing it. I promise I wasn't asleep.

The load was factory fodder Federal Premium Vital-Shok, 120 Grain's.

I am interested in an Encore 25-06 rifle. How well do they shoot?

BT If you had a choice between buying a 30-30 14" barrel or a 7X30 which would you choose and would you have it ported. Nice shooting. thanks

7-30 not ported, I have a 7-30 barrel that I just had rechambered to 7GNR and it is the super 14 hunter with the brake and it is obnoxious but it is an excellent shooter otherwise I would have sold it and bought another without a brake.
