I have a new 15" 45LC Encore barrel. I have both 240XTP Mags and 250XTP's. Which bullet would work best out of the 15" 45LC? I chrono'd a couple of 240XTP Mags I already had loaded with 27.5 gr. of H110. They came out of the barrel at 1710fps. What are your exeriences with these 2 bullets?....

I like the 250 in the 45 Colt best.

That is what use in all my wheel guns it did great out of the 12" G2 also. I Load 20.5 Gr of 2400 and a LPM

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

The Hornady XTP Mags are a beefier bullet than the regular HP-XTP's and designed to work in a higher velocity curve, such as the 460 S&W and muzzleloader sabots. At the speed you're running the 240's would work well, whereas the 250's do better at revolver speeds of around 1300 more or less. I use the 250 XTP's in my SBH Bisley 45 and they get the job done there, but may upset early if pushed too fast.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I'm shooting the 250's at 1250 and they perform well. 1700+ may be a little on the fast side. I would probably stick with the 240 Mags. since they were designed for more speed & pressure.

I use the 240 gr. xtp mags. for my 460. Iheard the same thing. The xtp mags are designed to work better at higher velocities.

Sounds like 454 velocities- I used to use the lighter bullets in my 454. I was sold on velocity because I groundhog hunt at 500-800yds alot with a rifle. That's where it really matters. However, now I use my 454 mainly for deer I switched to the 300XTP just for kicks close to max load 31.4gr. H110 at 1700fps.-the accuracy improved big time. I now put 5 shots inside of a quarter benched at 25 yds. At 100yds using shooting sticks i group inside a baseball.May not impress alot of professionals on this site but for me, I'm more than happy. This year, I shot my first deer with my 454 and now I'm sold on this load. When the gun's barrel recoiled upward,so did it. It went straight up in the air and landed in it's back and never even twitched. It did the job picture perfect and this load will also work on any North American game. One load for everything..That's perfect in my book.I'm not a professional by any means but I hope you try my approach with 45 Colt loads-I'm positive you'll be impressed as I.

The 250XTPs at 1700fps are spectacular on small deer and feral rams and goats ,however, when used on larger deer and such the penetration drop is too much for the off angle shot. If your going for the larger game I would say to play it safe and use the 240gr XTP at the 1700fps velocity that your getting from your Encore. I`am sure that load would give excellent results on whitetail out to 100yds.
