i have both and went with the 7mm only because of the recoil
i like 308 but is a lot more recoil but if i need more power
i have the 308 ready.

Inside thatrange, you'll never notice a difference. Pick whatever appeals to you.

My brother shoots a BUNCH of milsurp .308 from his Savage 12BVSS rifle...it will hold MOA to 500yds. another fella around here shoot milsurp from a 15" Encore w/ excellent results.

im thinking 308 just cause my dad has a rifle in 308, but just wondered how much difference in the two. Ive always been in shotgun territory for deer and when thinking of shots over 200yds that just seems so outhere but cant wait to get a barrel

Not a great deal of difference but I prefer the 308 Win. Bullet variety is a little better. If you're shooting commercial ammo, availability is better.

Using same bullet weights in the two, you couldn't measure the recoil diff by feel. And, using the same bullet weights, say 150 gr, you can push em faster in a 308 Win. Cartridges with body/neck reduction over around 28% start ebcoming inefficient. 7mm-08 is at 31%, 308 Win is at 26% .

The .308 would be the better choice if you plan on going after larger game in the future.

If you shoot a similar weight bullet from either you won't be able to tell much difference in recoil. The 7-08 will fly flatter, longer due to the higher BC of the smaller bore bullet but you won't see any real advantage inside of 400 yards. If you plan on going after bigger game in the future, the 30 cal offers more bullet variety in the heavies.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

As stated above many 7mm bullets have higher ballistic coefficient. I have both and like the 7mm-08 better. That's just me though....
