I got a little bored last night...kids were in bed, wife was shopping and the dog was asleep. So I got to thinking about the reduced .30 caliber load we were discussing several weeks ago. It uses 10gr Unique and any 100/110gr bullet...I've tried it in cartridges ranging from the 30-30 Win up to 30-06 with good success.

The question was raised about using it in a 7mm-08. Currently the only 7mm-08's I have are rifles...a NEF (dad's gun) and a Model 7 (Sara's gun...she's five). Since the M7 is a little more fun, I grabbed it, some empty brass and loaded five rounds using the 10gr Unique recipe, CCI200 primers and the Hornady 100gr HP bullet.

I just fired those five rounds at 25yds from my back porch, leaning over the BBQ grill.

The gun had not been zeroed since I swapped scopes. A quick bore sight was all I did...the rounds impacted a little low and left...not important. The important thing was that they all displayed no pressure signs, recoil was non-existent, and printed a perfect 1" square...which is about how much wobble was in my BBQ benchrest.

So for those that were interested...the 10gr Unique/100gr bullet recipe works awesome in the 7mm-08 cartridge. Next I'll be loading 20 rounds and shooting it at 50yds to compare POI w/ full power 120gr and 139gr bullet loads.

COOL! I am going to be loading some myself during the holiday. I would have already but all I have is 120's. One trip to Bass Pro will solve that.

Dan if you can, run them across a chrony for a velocity reading. Might be interesting to see what they are doing.

I plan on it...had I set up the chrony today it would have been blown into the next county.

While I haven't tried it in a 7-08, BlueDot is a great reduced recoil load powder with more potential power than Unique - if that is what you want. In my .260 rifle I use 19.0 grains of BD under a 100-grain BTip for 2400 fps and a 20-shot aggregate of just 0.768 moa at 100 yards. The load has low recoil and report. It is NOT a low-pressure load and should be worked up to with care, although I did go up to 22.0 grains without excess pressure signs. Accuracy was better at 19 grains.

.

Based on total trigger pull weight, my trigger finger has lifted well over 200 tons....
