It won't matter much as far as velocity is concerned, the velocity difference between 10" and 14" is usually around 100 fps according to Lyman data. So 10" versus 12" is only 50 fps, which is a meaningless amount. Blast will be greater with a 10", but a 12" holster is bigger. I'd go with the 10" but would take a 12".
.
Based on total trigger pull weight, my trigger finger has lifted well over 200 tons....

I'd probably go with the 10"

My buddie has a super 14, and the recoil is brutal. Take the 12 incher.

NES...I have both and really have no preference between them. th the big .44 cal bore, the 14" actually balances better for me than the short 10" tube.

For the straight wall handgun cartridges, I prefer the 10". For bottlenecks, I prefer 14".

I like 10" barrels. A frame with a 10" barrel is around the same size as a 7.5" revolver.

I prefer the 14". I have a 10" and wish I would have bought the longer tube. Granted the 10" tube makes a smaller carry package the extra weight of the 14" tube comes in handy when shooting heavier loads.

Keep in mind that the new T/C barrels have a the chamber cut different. The new barrels have much like a forcing cone cut in them. The old barrel I had was cut much like a rifle with very little freebore. The newer barrels have much more freebore and allow you to shoot the 300 XTP bullets seated out with the longer OAL.
If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Hey H20BUG or anyone else......do you have any experience or know if this freebore on the new barrels affects accuracy with cast bullets in the .44 barrel?....I seem to think that this freebore on my .357 T/C negatively affects accuracy....Jacketed bullets are fine but cast has given me headaches....
....I am also in the market for a .44 barrel and have been following this thread.....don't want to hijack it or anything....
...thanks folks!.....and Happy Holidays!

This is the best explination of what happens that I have seen. http://www.bellmtcs.com/store/index.php?cid=120I know the old T/C barrels were not like this. I am not sure when they stated this. It does make a differance in how they shoot and bullet selection
If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Ok so far it is close between the 10" & 12" still can't deside Someone said that the recoil with a 12" is brutal
I thought a longer barrel would be less recoil, sure need to know before I get one
I have a 44 wheelgun with 8 3/8" ported barrel recoil is not bad Don't won't any more recoil than it is
Can anyone help with this ? Tell me about the recoil THANKS N.E.S.

I don't know who told you a 12" 44Mag was brutal but mine is not much worse than any other 44 or 45 I have ever shot (It ain't no 22LR but it is not a killer---no problem to shoot 50-100 rounds at the range). If you want brutal try a stoked up 454 or 500 S&W in a 12" encore -- whole new level of recoil
That is why I love the 44's and 45's you know you have shot something but it does not abuse the shooter.
My 10" had a bit more muzzle rise than the 12" I like the long forearm in the 12" too
If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

recoil is a subjective thing, what is bad to you may not be so to others, everyone has their own tolerances and the only way to know for sure if something is going to bother you is to try. I used to get bored shooting ground squirrels with my 22 and I'd take out my 458 Lott, most people wouldn't consider doing something like that but I enjoyed shooting that gun and was not recoil shy with it at all but most people can't shoot that cartridge well at all because of the recoil.

I have a 10" barrel and very happy with it. I killed a 8 point that required a second shot at 100 yards and it worked fine. I had a along bushnell scope on it at the time. I have since removed the scope and installed iron sights. The 10 inch barrel is easier to move around with in a tree stand.
